Guys, life is filled with some wonderful blessings here at CTG. The latest being a beautiful box of Steenberg’s sensational flagship wines – The Sauvignon Blanc, the Semillon, the Nebbiola and the Catharina - the same ones we tasted on twitter last week.

They sent to to say thank you for taking part in the tasting – and now I must thank them for saying thank you. If you haven’t tasted any of these wines, you are sorely missing out. Best you book a tasting for you and your friends by calling this number +27 21 713-2211. You can also get hold of them on their website here.

An evening filled with hilarity, great wine and delicious food. CTG’s Wine Expert Harry completely took control of the situation and ran it like a total pro, arriving with his charcuterie and his selection of fine cheeses (a brie, a camembert and a landana), slicing up the baguette and sourdough and toasting it into crostini, frying up the spicy chorizo and wrapping it all in succulent parma ham. We decided to veer slightly from the menu Steenberg provided us with because one of our guests is allergic to shellfish, but we did well with what we had. The Catarina and the cheeses were without doubt my favourite part of the evening, though I did also enjoy the Sauvignon Blanc which we served with some fresh greens, rosa tomatoes, a touch of balsamic vinegar, olive oil, cracked black pepper and sea salt.

Some twitter highlights from the evening include:

I honestly enjoyed the evening immensely, especially having Harry around to educate us on the finer points of the wines. My tasting background is a whisky one, so I found the Steenberg Flagship wines to be a treat, especially after we left them to breathe a little and came back to them later, especially the Semillon which developed a clear, pineappled taste. Much thanks to Steenberg for sending over the tasting kit – I could definitely do more of these!

Oooh, what's inside?
Ah Steenberg. The name is like a second surname to me, really. In addition to being legendary Capetonian winemakers, the name also conjures forth years’ worth of fond memories of Christmas Days spent with the family on the golf course… getting reprimanded for not having my shirt tucked in, being attacked by a swarm of Egyptian Geese while wandering amidst the Vineyards, being excommunicated from further Christmas lunches for suggesting Ainsley Harriot might not be ‘god’ after all… such good times. All these warm emotions came bubbling to a fore this morning when I received my Flagship Tasting Goodie box filled with 4 different Steenberg wines, namely a Sauvignon Blanc Reserve, a 2009 Semillon (both ideally being drunk in 2 years time but let’s face it, they’ll probably go sooner), a Catharina for cheese platter pairing and a Nebbiolo, to be paired with a charcuterie platter. In it are also included the recipes for Vine Roasted Tomatoes and Goats Cheese, to be drunk with the Sauvignon Blanc, as well as the recipe for Gambas Pil Pil, to be enjoyed with the Semillon. My heart my explodes with joy. Can you hear it beating?

It beats for joy!
Why am I telling you all this? Not just to brag (partially to brag) but mostly to let you know that I, along with this Goodie Box of Steenberg’s finest, will be taking part in a Steenberg Flagship Twitter Tasting at 6pm next Tuesday 23 March. That’s precisely one week from now, so diarise it and tune in here on the twittersphere to watch the action unfold first hand. I will be inviting some of my wine-obsessed friends over, and we’ll have a swell time (I actually plan on cooking those recipes – a treat for all involved, best you hope to receive an invitation). Click here to read more about the Twitter Tastings, and if you click here you’ll see how you can host your own tasting. Fabulous!
