Taken from the Gautrain

Definitely one for the Holiday Bucket List. This is the Jade Mountain Resort at St Lucia. Let’s pretend we are there. Visualise it. Smell the smell of the sea air.

Imagine standing here at sunrise. Maybe some tropical birds cawing somewhere.

Having your muesli and Jasmine tea by the pool before your massage.

Can you smell the sea?

A little meditation in the pool? Ahhhhhh……

It reminds me of when I was on my Gap Yah? And I went on this spiritual mission to find the truth within me, and then I just chundered everywhere.
Utterly hilarious. A must-watch for anyone from the Southern Surburbs who knows anyone who’s gone on a gap year. You know who you are.

PD is currently chilling between St Tropez and Italy at the moment, enjoying a little summer time. She sends these pics, talks about pasta a lot and says she “keeps bumping into Jamie Foxx and Paris Hilton while out shopping”. How awful! Gonna be joining her soon for some poolside lazing, volleyball and copious amounts of eating great food.

First PD moved to London. Now LA is moving to Japan on Sunday. What is a CTG to do but get dressed in black, don some shades (LA wears Prada, CTG wears Bulgari, both Sunglass Hut) and take some morose pictures and then apply an Italiano filter to them. We’re in mourning here. Not sure what we’re going to do now that we’re all apart! (Probs lots of ’skype sessions’ via our iPhones.)
Sad times here at CTG HQ. Miss you PD. Miss you LA.
Went to Franschhoek for the Bastille Day festival. We drank lots of bubbly. Ate steak rolls. And generally had a good time. It was a little crowded. Definitely not the quaint champagne fest you may have in your mind. Think more… Maynardville.
Deborah and I perfected our Awkward Leans (below). Click to see whether we capture the vibe. Think we did a good job.
Kate insisted we get berets. It was a good call. Feel inspired to ‘give up my life and join the French Foreign Legion’. Just kidding. I like my life just fine.
Schuyler was the chicest of them all.

If you’re gonna go next year, you gotta do 3 things: 1. Book accommodation early for both Friday and Saturday so you can enjoy your day. We stayed in this gorgeous place – I highly recommend. 2. Pace yourself with the white wine. Dunno what it is about white people and their white wine but it makes them ‘lose their sh*t’. 3. Pretend you’re in France. Swanning about spewing Standard 8 French is perfectly acceptable at Bastille. Viva la France, etc.
So the initiative was launched last night at Freeworld Design Centre and it was awesome. Go check out nameyourhood and start sending in your ideas. There are manual submission forms out and about town too if doing it electronically is a little too convenient for you. Think about it – next time you read about a restaurant at 113 Long Street, you never have to do loop-de-loops until you find the place, cos it’ll be in a hood that you affectionately and practically refer to throughout your every day life.
As Sheldon would say, BAZINGA.
This is Sonya. She travelled across South Africa with a backpack and R100 for just under a year. During that time she stayed with over 150 families, who all took her in and helped her out of the goodness of their hearts. I think that’s amazing. She’s currently writing a book about her adventure. Click here to read more about her travels, and click here to follow her on twitter.
Went on a little trip up North to ‘get some perspective’. And by perspective, I mean, meet some cool people, drink Johnnie Walker Black and go to cool places. I’m never fond of leaving the city bowl, but my fellow Capetonians, JHB isn’t so bad, if you know how to do it. Stick with me kids.
Went to a Khaya FM Johnnie Black Jazz Party at Katzy’s. Love Katzy’s – it’s a jazz bar in the old school tradition at The Firs in Rosebank. Definitely a repeat venue for dinners and casual drinks for future Joburg trips.
Had lunch at Sofiatown restaurant in Newtown. Spotted this Nike Run Your City wheatpaste / social media campaign. Apparently one was done in Cape Town, but in Woodstock, so I never saw it. Not sure who runs through Woodstock. Would be far too cumbersome carrying pepperspray and a tazer.
Went to Neh! in Alexandra. It’s a 3-story restaurant / bar / club that looks out over the township. Loved the VIP areas - all Courvoisier and Hennessy and purple velvet and Veuve.
More of the Neh bar. A CTG-approved selection.
Wearing leopard print harem pants and sipping a glass of Johnnie Black at the Katzy’s party.
Spotted this poster at Kospotong in Newtown – love it. Love the ‘Hayibo Tokoloshe’ caption too!
Stayed at the Da Vinci hotel across the road from the Sandton Convention Centre. It’s got a great vibe – all black and white and silver. Great for a girls weekend, for future reference. Thanks for having me Joburg, it was fab.
