Mine was all done at Rhubarb Room. They have the best wrapping paper and strings and candy canes and stickers, and all sorts of other wonderful things to make your gifts look better than they are, even if they are awesome.
Avoid the malls. And the screaming children. And the defensive mothers. And the calamari smell coming out of Pick ‘n Pay.
Of course, malls serve their purpose. We hit the malls AFTER Christmas. For the sales.
Merry Merry all.

Because you’ll be able to purchase a pair of SA-made leather shoes to donate to a child who needs them from Bob Is For Good – the foundation run by SA Rugby legend Bob Skinstad. Click here to read up about the good work the foundation is doing. I’m buying a pair of shoes for everyone in my family to donate to kids who need them as Christmas gifts this year.

There’s all sorts of stuff happening at the Waterfront as usual, but another thing you should probably go check out would be the Ice Rink! Um, yes please! It’s by the Mugg & Bean and it’s inside a giant inflatable cube – you can’t miss it. It’s R50 and it closes at 10pm. We took a little spin on the ice over the weekend, and fell on our asses. But that is part of the fun! As is being dragged off the ice by irate parents who worry you’re going to crash into their small children who are pushing training seals around the ice. This is what life is about, friends.

How cute are those seals? Bless. How can you NOT go and push a seal around?

So in the spirit of all thing Kardashian we have been checking out the K-Dash range of clothing, which the Kardashian sisters have designed themselves, and there’s some seriously nice stuff here. We particularly like:

Gorgeous one-shoulder

Stunning pencil skirt

Fab embellished jacket

Simple and stylish LBD
Very nice. Wonder if they’ll start shipping to SA? I’ll ask them tonight at the Brutal Fruit partay ;)

You’d think a quiet morning decorating Christmas cookies, sipping lattes and browsing for gifts would leave one somewhat calm and zen-like on a Saturday. Not so. Instead my morning at Rhubarb Room was so inspiring that it sent me into a cookie-baking FRENZY which would only end very late on Saturday evening, and take up the entire day. Am not sure how it happened, but it did. Anyway it started very sedately. Some coffee. Trying on some clothes. Picking up most of my Christmas gifts. Touching the giant candy canes.

And then we got onto the cookies. RR are running a competition where you can win a R350 voucher if you decorate a Christmas cookie. It’s a lot of fun, we spent 2 hours doing it, and then the further frenzy… anyway found some gorgeous things for pressies, and for myself. Like this gorgeous long dress. And these espadrilles. Say it aloud… ‘espadrillllllllles’.

Rhubarb Room is on that road just above Buitengracht in the Cape Quarter. Lovely green grey building. Go check it out next time you want some coffee and snacks far from the maddeningly cool crowd up on Kloof. Take your lappie and catchup on some mails in an environment that feels like a welcoming, comfortable home. The owner is a lovely lady called Lauren and she is very friendly and will even decorate a cookie with you.

Even big strong men enjoy decorating cookies :)

What do you think of our efforts? I think we did great for first time icers!
It never ends!

So pretty. Get them at Cape Quarter.

Beyond cute.
My friend Emma is the girl in the studio who is always well-dressed – think heels, and a key ’seasonal trend piece’ and perfectly styled hair. It looks like her daughter Lula is embracing her fashionable tendencies at the tender age of 2 – please appreciate these matching mum & daughter Vivienne Westwoods!

My brain hurts from the cuteness.
Emma bought both pairs at Dillon & Jada in the Cape Quarter.

MEJ & CTG went to the launch of Only One at House of Fashion at 153 Loop Street last night. Only One is a new concept in shopping – let’s call it an ‘invitation-only Fashion Club’. You can join by being invited, or you can apply to become a member. As a member, instead of dealing with the usual mall-ish hoi-poloi with their mall-ish ‘can I help you?’, you can just book an appointment to shop, and when you’re there you get the services and guidance of a stylist, which takes a lot of the stress out of making decisions. Once you’re set on a dress and a look, you are fitted right there and then to your personal measurements, and can walk out with a one-of-a-kind beautiful piece that is tailored to your body.
Take a moment. Comprehend this. Can you say OH MY GOSH loud enough? The launch was lavish and lovely. Champagne, macarons, and dresses, dresses, dresses. We tried on seven thousand four hundred before we made a shortlist.

Macarons by Daniella's

I have my eye on this leopard-print maxi dress.

Love the leather couches and the wooden cabinets and mirrors - beats flourescent lights any day

Ladies who launch ;)

Sexy little canary yellow number

Chandeliers and champagne - quite a turnout

Another gorgeous dress!
Best you check it out ladies. Click here to find out more about becoming a member of Only One.

Are you guys familiar with Paul’s Bags? I got one as a gift from a friend who went to London and went ‘Paul Mad’, and this one was sent in by a reader (thanks Shelly) who spotted it at that Cult*ure (however you spell it) store at the Waterfront. The bags are all ‘quite mad’ - a bit like Chanel threw a party and invited Burberry, who invited Gucci, who invited Guess, who invited Toys R Us, and then they all got drunk and had sex and 9 months later gave birth to these bags.

LA & SB hit up the Table Bay hotel for a super glam VIP breakfast to celebrate the opening of the new Estee Lauder, Clinique, La Mer and Bobbi Brown beauty counters at Edgars V&A Waterfront last week. The food was delicious and it was a great networking event – everyone in beauty and beauty blogging was there.

The girls got their makeup done, they got to sample gorgeously indulgent La Mer products and enjoy the brand new beauty counters, all before anyone else.

And they walked away with some fabulous goodie bags filled with Bobbi Brown, Clinique, Estee Lauder and La Mer products. It was extremely naughty of Estee Lauder to spoil the ladies like this! :) But nobody’s complaining.

Get down to the new counters at Waterfront Edgars – they really are stunning! The lighting is so close to daylight you’ll get a good idea of how your makeup will actually look on your skin. They are also very spacious and well-organised. They get a manicured thumbs up from LA & SB.
