Just another (school) day in the pretty city. That’s very nice guys, well done on having some fun. Even the teachers who were too shy to dance held up signs with the words on on the sidelines. Spirited. Involved. Look, I’m not sure I’d be able to send my kids to a school that flashmobs a song that’s already seven months old and on the tailbone of the old trend curve, but I can appreciate the effort.
Discovered it through this Mahala article, which you should probably read. Maybe liking Disco Taxi is un-PC, but as one of the ‘born frees’, I just wanna dance, and this is catchy as hells yeah.
So there are only three scenes in this video and that bit at the end is a little gratuitous but there’s something about LDR that makes me pre-load her videos and make sure my earphones are plugged in before I watch or listen to her stuff. This is her new video Born to Die. It reminds me of where Lady Gaga was at with her Just Dance video. Like she maybe just went a little ‘full retard’ with the hick thing, but with a little experience I reckon this lady’s work will just get better.
I love these guys! So SAfrican but they also pull off such a universal feel. Plus I’ve had Schizo on my workout playlist for MONTHS so I’m so glad they made a video. The plot is super fun – they kidnap and torture themselves. Such slick production with that fantastic sense of humour so few bands in Cape Town possess. Enjoy!
Meet my Cali BFF Lana del Ray. She used to be ‘all indie and shizz’ and call herself ‘Lizzy Grant’ and she ‘walked on the emo side’, then she realised there was more fun to be had if she made herself ‘a little more accessible’(by putting on a nice dress and doing her hair and smiling and looking like she didn’t take life too seriously, even if her music does).
LDL also got collagen in her lips, which may be because then we’d all laugh at her for getting collagen in her lips and see her ‘human and deeply imperfect’ side, or maybe she thought we’d like them. Am not phased either way cos I really like her music, especially her music video for Video Games. She reminds me of when I used to live in a David Lynch movie and used to hang out in the muggy summer air in California and drink martinis and sneak into hotels and get chased by paparazzi. Those were the days. Watch:
Was SO scared to watch it in case we had another ‘Born This Way’ disaster, but so relieved to say I love this.
Frankenstein.
Splash.
Oh Brother Where Art Though.
True Blood.
Children of the Corn.
From Dusk Til Dawn.
Elizabeth.
Love my Gaga again. Especially my freaky mermaid Gaga being kept in a dirty bath tub in a barn in the farmlands. There’s something about that archetype that resonates with the modern day feminine principle It’s so cool.
This is Tommy Hilfiger’s son in his new music vid. Right now, T-Hil is reclining in a leather chair in his study at the Hampties, feeling bleak about life.
“I built an empire via my arian vision of clean cut kids on green lawns in collared shirts and my son becomes some wigga who looks like he spent Maths class making notes all over his body with a Pilot fineliner. FML.” – Tommy “Trying To HilFiger It All Out” Hilfiger
Been trying to count how many tats Rich Hill got but I keep getting distracted by him relighting his cigarillo when it goes out. I’ll bet he gets real mad behind the scenes and throws that cigarillo ‘into the bin with force’ (via #whiteboyproblems).
Also wish they’d used a longer corridor to film this in cos the whole three steps forward three steps back thing is making me dizzy, but maybe that is just Rich Hills Skilzz.. While this vid and its content is highly ‘non-aspirational’ for someone like me, I can appreciate that there must be some drunk, stoned chick out there with no self-esteem who might find this guy attractive and / or many ‘lost rich boyz’ ‘out dere’ who ‘feel this bros swag’ and retweet him to their homies.
Miss B can do no wrong in our eyes. Her new video for Girls Rule The World is extra special cos it references dance moves you be seeing on dancefloors across SA, affectionaly known as pantsula. And girl does it well! Check out how the pros do it below.
I love Lady Gaga’s new video for Judas because it appeals to that part in every woman that seeks to blame herself for what goes wrong in a relationship, and embraces the juxtaposition of a strong set of ethics and religious values alongside a willingness to martyr the mother divine via loving a man who has betrayed herit’s freaking cool. Love the imagery, love the song. Go Gaga.
