Thanks to Priscilla for alerting me to GalPal Adventuresa travel club for just women. While that sounds a little weird at first, it could actually be really awesome. Or I think so. Girl Power Travel Club! Sounds fantastic! In their words:

“GalPal Adventures is a recently formed Social Travel, Leisure & Adventure Club that offers group tours for ladies wanting to share their journeys with other lady-friends. Our tours range from high-speed group adventures to relaxing scenic vacation getaways, even to life-changing cultural immersion travel experiences.”

They do trips across South Africa as well as organising international destinations. Perfect for when you feel like getting away and maybe you don’t have someone to travel with and you don’t want to travel alone. Click here to check it out. CTG hasn’t tried it yet but we think it’s a great idea so watch this space. Please be sure to note the disclaimer at the bottom of their homepage (below) – hilarious!

Had a good and lovely little mini break! And the weather played summer-summer too! Glorious. Think drinking Vida and swinging with the kiddies on the promenade
A swing on the prom

Trying on engagement rings with BFF (bridesmaid duties! so much fun!)

Pretty pear cut

Mmmmm pretty sparkly stones
Of course nothing compares to a simple set solitaire - decisions decisions...

Lots of running, offset by eating LOTS AND LOTS of macarons! These ones are from Cassis. Vanilla and Pistachio are my two favourite flavours by far.

Macaron heaven at Cassis

Eating LOTS AND LOTS of sushi. Frances pictured here at Sevruga

Sushi sauvage

Picked up a pair of very unique Roberto Cavalli’s from Sunglass Hut at the Waterfront. Because WHAT is summer without a pair of statement shades? It’s a joke, that’s what.

Just picked up some very unique Roberto Cavalli's at @SunglassHutSA. Intricate detailing

Listened to David Bowie vinyls… on repeat…

“Take a look at the Lawman
Beating up the wrong guy
Oh man! Wonder if he’ll ever know
He’s in the best selling show..”

Wowie Bowie

Went to watch Farryl Purkiss at &Union. Super chilled, super prego rolls.

'Who're you trying to please?'

Got a Flash for my Diana camera and took lots and lots of photos, still to be developed. This pic is taken using my iPhone and the Diana flash - you can literally track the flash as it moves. Quite a mission to take pics like this but still lots of fun, especially with all those pretty colour gels.

Diana flash, green gel & iPhone - trippy

We got our makeup done by the lovely ladies at Estee Lauder. Ladies, have you tried the Advanced Repair Eye Cream? This is not a gratuitous product punt. As a girl who loves her eye makeup (like, if I’m going to lounge around in bed in lingerie all day, I’ll get up, put on makeup, and then get back into bed and lounge), I can honestly say that the Lauder eye cream product is amazing. I feel a whole lot less bad plastering on panda paint now that eyes are receiving some form of moisturising redemption.

Just had our makeup done at Estee Lauder... Feel so pretty :) @ulul1

We also spent a night at the Old Mac Daddy Luxury Trailer Park in Elgin, but that’s a whole other post, soon to follow…

We found the luchadore costumes as we were leaving - http://www.oldmacdaddy.co.za

Miss u holiday. You were awesome.

LOVE being on holiday because it allows you to do things like meander around the inner city and stroll into the National Gallery if the fancy takes you. I did such a thing at some point last week and discovered a really great exhibition called From Pierneef to Gugulective and it’s such a great spread of work – please please please go take a look, it’ll be a worthy hour or so.

Much love in my heart for SA artist Sarah Brice

Lisa Brice - one of CTG's fav SA artists

Eyes as window to the mind

Can't remember the artist here but this bro appears in my dreams from time to time.

SLK shows us how to wear Summer 2011’s shades

22 Jul 2010, Posted by Cape Town Girl in BFFs, CTG, beach, bloggers, fashion, holiday, hotels, sponsors, 6 Comments

Shades by Salvadore Ferragamo, bikini by Aubade, beach by god

As I mentioned previously, CTG’s styling and makeup gets done by Samantha Laura Kaye, aka SLK. Sam recently jetted off to Mauritius for a little bit of sunshine in the wintertime, and CTG got Sunglass Hut to hook her up with a preview selection of this coming Summer’s hottest shades and basically show us ‘how to do Summer 2011′. Mauritius is not imperative to the looks she’s put together, but let’s be honest, it will definitely help.

A lady and her luggage. Shades by Salvadore Ferragamo, exclusive to Sunglass Hut.

This season's must-haves: Shades by Ferragamo, bikini by L'aubade, Kindle by Amazon.com, coconut cocktail courtesy of the Le Touessrok beach barmen

Sunglass afficionados, take note - these guys are employed to clean your shades while you're on the beach. Not kidding. That's all they do. Those who share the sunglass fetish will no doubt appreciate the utter awesomeness of that fact.

A close-up of the shade-cleaning action

Shades by Miu Miu for summer 2011, bikini by L'aubade, beach by Mother Nature

Shades by Ray Ban, bikini by Kulu, light dancing through the water in the swimming pool by some otherworldly power that is inspiring and beautiful

Shades by Ferragamo, green vest shirt by Diesel, white pleated skirt by Aca Joe, panama hat by Fabiani (imported from equador) bikini (under green top) Aubade.

Shades by Salvadore Ferragamo, bikini by Kulu

Swimwear (under dress) by kulu, dress by Melodie A, sunglasses by Ferragamo, earrings by Givenchy, watch by Fossil, sunshine by sheer awesomeness

Isn’t it just all a bit much in terms the of ‘holy crap that looks incredible’ factor? Don’t you  just want to book a flight RIGHT NOW? I’m trying to stop my mouse wandering over to TravelStart and booking myself an irresponsible beachy adventure, but it’s tough. It’s REAL tough. If you’re interested though, SLK stayed here for a total of 10 days, and I think one might conclude from these pics that she ‘had a good time’. Maybe.

****COMPETITION ALERT: Guys, mail me which of SLK’s outfits you liked the best and why, and you could win this pair of white Miu Miu’s for this upcoming summer. They’re not even in stores yet! editor@capetowngirl.com – go! You have til Friday 6 August 2010.

Lomo Love

Got the film in my Lomo ActionSampler developed. It’s been in my camera since July 2009 until now – pretty much a year. You wouldn’t think so though, it’s a bit like the endless summer in there!

Beautiful hey? It makes me wish this was my life. Oh wait, it is. Rad! Click here to see the full set on CTG’s Flickr.

Dear Paris Hilton: CTG explains the rules for blowing the Vuvuzela

05 Jul 2010, Posted by Cape Town Girl in BFFs, CTG, Celebrity, cape town, hilarious, holiday, lifestyle, non-tourist attractions, south africa, 0 Comments

Paris in what looks like 'mid-vuvuzela blow'

Guys, you can’t not be impressed by Paris Hilton’s readiness to adopt certain Capetonian customs, namely her decision to ‘blow the vuvuzela’ during one Cape Town match. It’s a shame she got arrested for ‘blowing the vuvuzela’ - that’ll take the fun out of a cultural experience. Girlfriend clearly needs a friend to show her the ‘vuvuzela blowing rules’ in this city.
Well Paris, CTG is here to help.

Cape Town’s Vuvuzela-blowing rules (official set as of July 2010):
1.    Always blow your vuvuzela in the car, on the way to the game. That way you won’t feel the need to actually blow it at the game.
2.    Always keep eyedrops, chewing gum and perfume close. You don’t want the tell-tale smells of Vuvuzela lingering all over your hair extensions, and those nasty burst blood-vessels in your eyes from excessive blowing. That’s not hot.
3.    Get someone else to carry your Vuvuzela for you. That way, if you are exposed as having been blowing your Vuvuzela, someone else can take the blame for it (you did seem to get this part right, Paris – props).
4.    Pace yourself when blowing your vuvuzela. You don’t want to get so carried away blowing your Vuvuzela that you miss the match.
5.    Keep a Steri Stumpie handy, for when your mouth gets dry from all that Vuvuzela blowing.

6. If you are caught, look indignant and say, ‘But this is Cape Town!’ That line works every time! And if you’re not in Cape Town? Say it anyway!

Practise makes perfect, Paris - blow that horn

Trust me Paris. These are pro-tips. Hope you enjoy the rest of your stay.

xxCTG

(Good) Friday Photo(s)

It’s a public holiday in Cape Town. Everything is closed except this flower:

Did a l’il this and that. My mom’s cat:

Recovering from poker the night before:

Finding the perfect pair of low-cut faded black skinnies (momentous occasion – it almost never happens) from Edgars for a paltry 180 bucks.

What I’m doing with my Easter Weekend

01 Apr 2010, Posted by Cape Town Girl in CTG, cape town, holiday, lifestyle, 5 Comments

Trying a new coffee venue. I love my vida, and I have enough credit on my loyalty card to last me a lifetime, but I’m going to get out of my comfort zone this weekend. Because a small change – like where you drink your coffee – can rid you of that ‘I want to dye my hair blonde’ desire for total change (yes, it’s still there).

Going to the beach. We need to make the most of the sun while it’s still around friends! Soak it up! Savour it! For the autumn chills are here.

Eating oysters at the Biscuit Mill. Because the oysters are delish! Will possibly follow oysters up with a tuna burger, from the stall on your right as you walk into the hall. Because they are delish, too.

DIY around the flat.
A little painting. A little fixing of a skirting board. I should probably get someone in but I feel like I’ll do it properly because it’s my flat and I live there. Plus I can ‘put love into it’. Things turn out differently when the person doing them ‘puts love into it’. You feel?

Clearing clutter. ‘Autumn cleaning’, if you will. Nesting up for winter. They say that if you want new things in your life, you need to make room for them. Started the process earlier this week, will be finishing it this weekend.

Reading. Currently ‘Misery’ by Stephen King. Because his books that are not about ghosts, gouls and creepy clowns are actually brilliant. Plus I just ‘killed a character’ (via starting a new blog), just like the main character in Misery, an author who quits his bestselling series to do some ‘real writing’.  Luckily my story is nothing like this one…

Happy Easter everyone. Hope it’s filled with Lindt Bunnies. Hope mine is filled with Lindt Bunnies, more specifically. What are you guys doing? Is there anything i SHOULD be doing? xx
