Die Antwoord: Evil Boy

The latest video from one of SA’s tightest local pop acts, Die Antwoord, is doing the rounds. While it’s not CTG’s personal taste per se, it’s f-ing cool. We love Die Antwoord because they are one of the few local acts who don’t take themselves too seriously, and it frees up their concepts and lets them push their vibe because they’re not chasing the integrity spectre. Keep it up Ninja! Love your rat coat Yolandi! And especially love the curvy black Yolandis. Hawt.

Loerie Awards interview special: “My sisters got hold of me.”

So this weekend was dominated by The Loerie Awards. The Loerie Awards is a massive advertising festival, where creatives come together to share hangover remedies great work and be inspired by the great work their peers have produced. It is a time for throwing your name networking, for  breaking your previous year’s tequila record sipping wine sedately and for crippling yourself by wearing impossible heels and walking all over town 2 nights in a row dancing til the sun comes up. Anyway it’s a lot of fun, and it’s even more fun with the iFourn (what we at CTG have taken to calling the iPhone 4), as much of it makes for good video. Here is an interview with Annleigh & Dil, 2 junior ad execs, talking about how they found their first Loerie Awards night and how Dil decided on her dress.

Steri Stumpie flavour war is happening RIGHT NOW

04 Oct 2010, Posted by Cape Town Girl in cape town, drink, hilarious, lifestyle, music video, 0 Comments

Not sure if you’re aware of this but CTG has been under SEIGE from a pack of rabid Steri Stumpie fans who are adamant that their flavour is the best flavour. I’ve had to employ a decoy to leave and arrive before me for fear of being pelted with a flavour that doesn’t go with what I’m wearing. Last week The Marsh Pit came out with this serious serving of Zeftitude, and then a bunch of chocolate fanatics hit back with not one but TWO videos!

I’m not speechless yet but I am getting there. What’s going on? Are you guys okay? Has anyone else felt the effects of the flavour war? Does anyone have any idea why the fighting broke out? Please try and remain calm so as to limit the  milkshed. And always remember your duty:

The Marsh Pit – you gotta watch this

Check out this video, made by some hardcore Steri Stumpie fans in response to the apparently ‘outrageous’ claim that ‘Marshmallow is the third least popular Steri’. Hilarious! I think they’re giving the Streep Brothers, legendary creators of The Steri Stumpie Song, a run for their money. Don’t know about you but I need a Steri Stumpie right now. Might break my Strawberry Rule and go for a Marshmallow. Uh.

CTG gets ‘tasted’ by the Mayan Guys

29 Sep 2010, Posted by Cape Town Girl in CTG, Celebrity, WTF, characters, hilarious, 1 Comments

We posted about these dudes last week. They were first spotted in Joburg but it seems they are now in Cape Town. We’ve been following them and let me tell you rarely does something amuse us to the point where we laugh out loud, fall on the floor and smack our foreheads with our heels but that is exactly what CTG did when seeing the Mayan Guys ‘discover’ Virgin Active and doing ‘the pose of the puma’ on the Bosu balls.

The Pose of the Puma

A similar reaction followed when we saw the photos of them ‘giving ancient Mayan gifts’ to some random woman, the ‘ancient Mayan gifts’ being a t-shirt.

Woman with her 'ancient Mayan gift'

And when we saw them patting the heads of the concierges at One & Only Cape Town.

Just a little head pat here

And seeing them ‘discover’ the belly of a seaman down at the harbour induced similar fits of laughter:

Discovering a sea man

And I KID YOU NOT, as this post was being ‘loaded’, who walked through the door of the studio but THE MAYAN GUYS. It was unreal!! Then they started tasting mepresume they are looking for a maiden to sacrifice to their corn god in a pit of fire. God I WISH it was me!

Hmm tasty sacrifice to corn god?

Getting tasted by the Mayan Guys

The Mayan Guys come to visit

The tongue of approval?

I freaking love the Mayan Guys, whomever they are. I haven’t laughed so much in ages. You can friend them on facebook or follow them on twitter. If you see the Mayan Guys around town be sure to say hi! Maybe offer them a Vida. They are from a distant place so our world must appear very strange to them. Those Mayan guys.

Death Ray Hotel

“You can check out any time you like, but (when you go tan by the pool you will be burnt like an ant and) you can never leave.” Am not kidding, there is a hotel in Las Vegas that is designed in such a way that it reflects and magnifies sunlight and burns its guests! Can’t make this shit up. Thank heavens One&Only Cape Town does not burn its guests, because that’s probably where we’re going to be spending much of this summer, and the ‘dead ant’ vibe is so 1998.

SA Blog Awards

So we had a fabulous time at the SA Blog Awards at One & Only Cape Town this weekend. We did a slow build up with an outfit coordination evening on Thursday night, and then we cruised through braai day into Saturday and then suddenly we were late for the Blog Awards pre-drinks, where we posed for pics.

CTG was a finalist in the Best New Blog category, which we didn’t win. Well done to Simply Delicious who did. Highlights of the evening included:

- Mumz the MC: he was on fiya with the geek jokes

- Helen Zille’s speech: Hel knows how to work a crowd. Did you know that she was the first to have a verified Twitter account in South Africa? Now you do.

- the mojitos.

- the mysterious blank envelope that vexed the MC trying to announce the Best New Blog award, and then the organisers fumbling all over the stage to find out who’d won the category – hilarious! What a mess! Clearly no auditing went down.

- JP Naude dissing previous SA Blog Awards shows as circlejerks (not his exact words) and stating that this year’s awards were ‘the proper awards’ - lol!

- 2oceanvibe’s speech (read by Jessica Rabbit in his absence) tuning all the brand-haters, stating (truthfully) that this strange hating of bloggers working with brands is a uniquely South African tick, and that 2oceansvibe was no longer going to be a blog, but rather a ‘preferred news source’. Big news!

- the dress I wore, from Pepe Jeans - as chosen by YOU guys (thanks for your input!) – I am in love with this grecian goddess cut, super comfortable but also elegant. And warm! It was freezing on saturday. I wore it with big gold earrings and a gold bangle and black pumps. I also love the print.

Thanks everyone for all your support! We had a great time. And well done again to all the winners. Full list here.

And if you’d like a little perspective on the SA Blog Awards you can read what one of the judges had to say.

And here’s a pretty solid account from an industry member.

What a lag!

**BONUS BEHIND-THE-SCENES MATERIAL**

Check out this interview CTG did with PD & LA 2 nights before the SA Blog Awards in which they discuss topical issues such as how they’d feel about winning, losing and what dresses they’ll be wearing.

have you met the Mayan guys?

Just, you know, being Mayan today. In a Mayan way.

Okay so not entirely sure what’s going on  here, all I know is I’ve been getting repeat reports about sightings of guys dressed up like Mayans, just busting out Mayan vibes in locations up Northdressed like Mayans. I guess that’s cool, you know. Quite ‘Empire of the Sun’ but cool. Follow their Mayan antics on twitter here.

Being Mayan at the Zone in Rosebank (now this I'd LOVE to see)

Just some good, clean Mayan fun.

Summer’s coming, and summer clothes are in stores, and the sun has started to shine A LOT so you’ll be gathering the beginnings of a summer wardrobe. A VERY NB part of your summer wardrobe are, of course, your shades. Now shade shopping is quite a hectic vibe - you really want to try on EVERYTHING before you decide on a pair (it always seems so final) but that can be a hassle. Not to worry – we went shade shopping for you and while we were there we tried on pretty much everything in store – and we made a video of it. So sit back and enjoy this Summer 2010 Shade Shopping Guide, brought to you by CTG, PD, LA & Sunglass Hut.

Like what we’re wearing? CTG dressed in dress & jacket by Pepe Jeans SA, available at all Edgars & Stuttafords stores nationwide, wedges by Bronx Ladies. PD wears skirt & top from TopShop Dubai, and LA wears dress from Zara UK.
