I got a late-night treat delivery last night in the form of some CTG macarons. CTG macarons are champagne-infused vanilla flavour, and the absolute best in the world, despite what anyone says about Laduree, etc. Thank you Daniela’s, you made my evening. Taste them for yourself – you can find Daniela’s in the new Cape Quarter next to Dillon & Jada, or stalk them on twitter here, or order off their site here.
Nom noooom!

Phone rings.
Me: Hello?
Secretary: Hello Alex Robert Mugabe is here to see you.
Me: [...]
Secretary: Hello?
Me: Robert Mugabe?
Secretary: Yes. Can you come down?
Me: Um, can you tell him I’m in a meeting?
Yes, not every day you get a phonecall like that. A man resembling a certain not-very-loved African dictator came to present me with a Nando’s Meal-for-6 voucher today, in honour of the new Meal For 6 promotion Nando’s is running. The site goes live at 4pm, so head on over to mealfor6.co.za for more details. And look out for the TV ad – starring our favourite dictator and 5 of his friends.
You can also win yourself a meal for 6. You just gotta tweet the names of 5 people (living or dead) that you would like to have dinner with and include the hashtag #mealfor6 and you’re entered.
Highlight of my day: when I did go down to meeting, secretary says to me “I’ve never seen Robert Mugabe in real life before, is that really him?”

Had a great day chatting health benefits with Craig from Discovery Health (top right) and some other media folk as a warm-up to our Big Walk on Sunday. We talked about what makes being healthy hard, and it’s not just the mere existence of McDonald’s (or in my case, macarons). It’s also misleading food packaging, about how we don’t know what acceptable levels of salt, sugar and fat is. We also talked about how it can be hard for some people to stay motivated when it comes to exercise. That’s one thing Discovery are great at – I am personally obsessed with earning Vitality points and will take any opportunity to do so. Blood tests, going to gym and, of course, the Big Walk which I’m doing on Sunday with Discovery (4 000 Vitality points! Wheeeeeeee!).

See you at the Big Walk on Sunday! (I’ll be the girl in the Discovery cap and the Bulgari Shades from Sunglass Hut ;)

Put it on your list of awesome lunch spots. It’s at 190 Sir Lowry Road in Woodstock and has British flag awnings so it’s easy to spot (on the right coming out of town). I had the Asian Tuna wrap with a selection of their fantastic salads. And their crunchies are good too. Click.

Nando’s sent me lotsa tomatoes! They look so delicious and ripe I had to share. It’s in honour of the new Nando’s flavour, Tangy Tomato - for people who don’t like the hot stuff. Tangy Tomato chicken is sun-ripened tomato with a blend of aromatic basil and a hint of zesty balsamic vinegar. Sounds delish!
Currently obsessed with artisan breads, and since I’m a bit sick of the usual suspects I’ve stumbled on this absolute jewel of an unknown. Above is a semi-rye country sourdough loaf from a bakery called Dirk Bakes Bread. Artisan to the tee – he makes to order mostly, and all of it’s wood-fired. Plus he’s quite difficult to get hold of, so it really feels like an achievement when you get to place and receive your order (so Cape Town). I don’t know how he gets that incredibly soft inside but it’s got me risking my carb allowance for it. Right before summer too! I ordered some of his ciabattas for a dinner party a while back and they were amazing!

Check out his site for details on how to order.

I just love this idea. Escape2EvolveAfrica is a company that runs holiday bootcamps where you go away and fill your days with active, outdoor adventures and healthy eating, to get your body and mind in shape. The Base Camp is in Pringle Bay situated within the Kogelberg Biosphere and nature reserve, so you’ve got beaches and mountains and forest terrain in which to play while you focus on getting fit.
This sort of thing is awesome as a kickstart after, say, having a kid, or maybe you just fell of the healthy wagon and want to get back on. Or maybe, like me, you think the idea of going away for a week of varied, outdoor exercise and healthy eating sounds like a whole lot of fun. Click for more.

Looking forward to this event at the Table Bay Hotel. So far I’ve eaten about 500 Lindt Balls and drunk a bottle of champagne and I haven’t even got to the Table Bay yet, so things are looking good. First we’ll be picked up in a limo then we’ll be taught how to make all manner of delicious things while taking part in our own cooking show (literally a life-long dream of mine – been telling everyone, my hair is longer than Nigella’s so I’m definitely a better cook) and then we’ll ’suffer’ through a wine-tasting at the Atlantic Grill (what a tragedy) and then we’ll sample a few of the whiskies and cognacs at the Union Bar (love me a single malt).

to read up more about who’ll be attending it with me, you can click here. Looking forward to having CTG’s Official Wine Expert along. Should be hilarious!
After a surprise birthday dinner at Aubergine on Friday, JW & KW had their party at AndUnion on Monday night. Happiness for all who like Weiss beer and the famous andunion prego roll (ie me). Went on a photo frenzy with hipstamatic but (here’s a learning) not all the pics came out. Despite that we had a great time. As for Aubergine… give it a try! I recommend the risotto starter and the osso bucco.
