tales of one-shoulder frills and tie-dye

The lovely guys at Pepe Jeans sent me some of their summer stock today and I tried on a few things just to give you an idea of what their vibe is this coming season. Think very light chiffony fabrics - the camisole and the dress are both super light and wafty. I love the ruffle that comes over the one-shoulder, too. There are a few more dresses – I’ll put them up later – which are also fun prints in very light fabric. I love how they send me one-shoulder everything - they know me so well!

Some of the Summer Pepe range. Shoes in the middle are Bronx.

Another favourite of mine are the tie-dyed jeans in these pics. They are a happy, pretty, sky blue, and they have very subtle sparkles on the pockets. Guys there is something so fun and “French” about the Pepe Girls clothing - I really love it. It’s feminine and soft. Minimalist basics are all very well but it’s good to have some solid, pretty stuff too.  You know what that dress there needs? I’m thinking a fascinator from Hello Sailor:

And maybe a day at the races. Click here to follow Pepe Jeans SA on facebook.

Australian Brand Witchery launching in SA soon

26 Oct 2010, Posted by Cape Town Girl in fashion, shopping, south africa, 1 Comments

Quite excited about this. If you like Country Road, Pepe Jeans and Trenery, the choice in well-cut basics clothing brands just got broader with the introduction of Australian Witchery brand to Stuttafords. Stutties gets a bit of a bad rap a lot of the time but the new stores are really slick, and they have some amazing brands (Lipsy, Pepe). I love the Witchery palette – greys, metalllics, neutrals and tribal prints. And I love love LOVE the simple cuts. Great for summer in the city.

polarised shades take over Cape Town

25 Oct 2010, Posted by Cape Town Girl in CTG recommends, fashion, sponsors, 2 Comments

He wears Polarised Ray Bans, she wears Polarised D&Gs

Not sure if you’ve seen the buzz surrounding polarised shades lately. I thought I’d take this moment to talk about them since I’ve got a few ‘what’s the big deal with polarised shades’ questions. And it’s simply this:

Polarised shades obliterate glare like Chuck Norris jokes obliterate all other internet memes.

Anyway the arrival of polarised lenses in designer brands is quite important, because it means we can all have Eyes Of A Hawk while we lounge around in bikinis on the beach, looking stylish, eating cupcakes. This might sound a bit abstract, because you think the shades you currently have already cut out the glare. Well they do, but not like polarised lenses do. I didn’t understand this until I went into a Sunglass Hut store and put on some polarised shades and stared at the polarised mirrors. What looks like an entirely white mirror becomes a full-colour picture, entirely naked to your glared up eye. Until now.

Please – don’t take my word at face value. Go in store and check it out yourself.

Softlips Stylista Search winner to be announced in a matter of hours

22 Oct 2010, Posted by Cape Town Girl in CTG, Celebrity, competitions, fashion, 0 Comments

Not sure if you’ve been following this on facebook but the Softlips Stylista Search is about to come to an end. Those of you who have been watching will know that competition’s been stiff to see who’d be chosen as SA’s hottest young Red Carpet reporter, and emotions have been running high. The finalists have been chosen, some of them flown down to Cape Town and they are being groomed and workshopped right now – as I write this! A winner will be accounced at the end of the day – oh the suspense – and she will get a wardrobe from YDE, a column in Seventeen mag and access to the hottest parties this summer. And an iPhone. Super cool! Check out the girls in their session, learning about looks and beauty tips and all sorts of things a red carpet reporter needs to know, no doubt:

Find out who wins later here!

Girl crush! Helloooooo Fix!

20 Oct 2010, Posted by Cape Town Girl in CTG, Celebrity, Girlcrushes, fashion, girl stuff, 0 Comments

We like pretty girls. We like men too - a lot – and we’ll get to our man-crushes later. But we’re kicking off our GIRL crushes with Fix Moeti, who caught CTG’s eye in the windows for the latest Levi’s campaign – she totally steals the show with those lips. And that ass. Girl’s like something out of a L’il Kim feat Trina song.

She lives in Joburg now but she’s been caught going on about how much she loves Cape Town, and that’s enough for us. She’s currently cohosting the 5FM Total Request Live Show with Sizwe Dhlomo. We like her coz her pout isn’t slutty, and that’s a difficult thing to crack. It comes from within, the non-slutty pout. We also like her attitude. She’s fun and she’s smart.

And as if all that wasn’t enough to top up your wow drink, she’s currently in Chicago studying fashion design (ie. doing something useful with her life). Next time you’re CT, give us a call Fix. We’ll go shade shopping together. It’ll be awesome.

John Galliano appreciates the macaron as much as we do

20 Oct 2010, Posted by Cape Town Girl in CTG recommends, fashion, food, 1 Comments

Surely this will stop the haters from gaaning on about ‘what is this fuss about macarons’macarons are here to stay and they remain on our Highly Desirable list with this latest development. John Galliano is designing limited edition macarons & their packaging as a tribute to one of his fragrances (love a Galliano fragrance – we expect rich and indulgent) with world-renowned pastry cafe Laduree.

This isn’t a first time a designer has taken on the macaron – Christian Louboutin did a range last year too.

We might have to take a trip to Paris just to see (and by see I mean eat 20 of) these Galliano macarons.

I hate to admit this cause my world is usually

filled with beautiful things like

Watkykjy cleaned up at the blog awards.
Die Antwoord are going on world Tour.
Jack Parow’s ‘Cooler as Ekke’ is getting even BIGGER

We can not deny it any longer!

Soon this ZEf thing will hit the fashion runways

And we will all be rocking Yo-landi Vi$$er style mullets!

Then in twenty years time we will look back on our tagged images on Facebook

And think to ourselves WTF* were we thinking.

That’s is the price we pay for being trendy.

So lets embrace this trend

Raise our lattes to ZA starting a global trend

And us ‘poppies’ considering getting our hair cut.

For now here is a cool new label that has popped up… Zef Leopard

I am sure some of the CTG followers boyfriends wouldn’t mind one of these;)

What Khanyi wore… to her birthday party

19 Oct 2010, Posted by Cape Town Girl in Celebrity, Parties, fashion, south africa, 0 Comments

Photo Tsepho Kekane originally appeared on The Times Live.

This is what Khanyi wore to her birthday at the Bank in Rosebank, Joburg. So Britney circa Circus. So Beyonce circa Sweet Dreams. So She-ra circa the 80s. We love Khanyi coz she’s such a Lohan - always losing her shiz on twitter, ranting to the press about restraining orders, racing around in Lamborghinis – a total hot mess! She is, in every way, a Joburg Girl. We wish she’d get her blog on.

Feiyue now available at a-store

We at CTG are big fans of the Feiyue brand of sneakers. It’s hard to find stylish chick sneaks. It requires a certain footshape, fit, a je-ne-sais-quoi which most sneakers fail at having. Feiyue are streamlined and elegant and cred enough to wear without feeling lame. And their palette is awesome too. Happily you can now buy them at a-store! Which is just up the road from… everyone in Cape Town. Whew. Or Click here to order online.
