Rokk Vodka appoints online sensations Lonely Island as Creative Directors, let them do a TV ad

I’m calling this “A small step for a bloggers, a giant leap for brand kind”.

Rokk Vodka have appointed the LEGENDS behind “I’m on a boat” as the Creative Directors of their new ad. Of course, it is hilarious. Please enjoy. An excerpt:

“I had a wonderful dream of a place where luxury, status, desire, a Viking, and a vodka transcends space and time to a moment soon forgotten.”

We’re very excited for PUMA Social which will be starting 1 December. I just received the first of the videos they’re doing to promote it and it features Schalk Burger. It’s all about ‘the after hours athlete’ – think ping pong, bowling, karaoke, darts, that kinda thing. Luckily we have killer players with killer skills on all fronts so we’re prepared. We’re ready. Those of you who have taken a beating from team CTG at one of those sports before will know we’re not ‘just fronting’. Click here to sign up to stay in the loop regarding Puma Social events. Gonna be HUGE!

Steri Stumpie rips off Apple and gives “Keynote address” to launch new Steri Flavour aka “Steri Stumpie 10″

Have you ever seen a Steve Jobs Keynote Address? Not??? They are like rock concerts in Applegeek land. Every year Steve gives a keynote address, and every year it’s the highlight of the Apple calendar. It’s the forum Steve uses to announce new product developments. The best thus far has been this year’s iPad Keynote address – the geeks went WILD. Click here to check out the iPad address – you should watch it if you’ve never watched a keynote since you are missing out on a major part of popular culture. Anyway Steri Stumpie spoofed that by hiring comedian Paul Snodgrass and dressing him up like Steve Jobs for the media launch of new Coffee Flavoured Steri Stumpie – The Steri Stumpie 10. I was lucky enough to attend and let me tell you, it was heelarious. They’ve cut it into a video – check it out above.

PS much of that footage is filmed on an iPhone 4. Yes. Comprehend it. It is real, in an unreal way.

Coffee & Shades post KWV dinner

D&G Cats’ Eyes from Sunglass Hut: Check.Wear them indoors all day and annoy everyone around you for being ‘one of those people’. I don’t care. I’m in too much pain.

Double Skinny Latte from Vida: Check. Take small sips continuously over course of the morning. Annoy everyone around you with your slurping sounds. Doesn’t matter because everyone’s already annoyed at you for wearing shades at your desk.

Spray La Mer’s Mist all over face in bid to ‘feel fresh’.

Smother skin in Elizabeth Arden’s Prevage Serum to smooth out pillow lines on face (due to combination of extreme dehydration and falling face down into bed).

Clinique Supermoisture Foundation: Check. Hide that tell-tale red face.

Pop 4 x Natrodale Milk Thistle in the hopes that doubling the dose will make up for not taking it the night before, like I should have.

Fake smile: Check. Hoping it ‘turns real’ any second now…

Thanks KWV ;)

thanks KWV

Had a delicious 3-course dinner at the Food Room last night, hosted by KWV. Have you been there? Check it out.

It was a small, intimate dinner and a bunch of other bloggers were invited. We ate seared tuna steaks, sirloin with rosti and creme brulee. I drank KWV’s Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon all night – cosy and chocolatey and warm because winter decided to ‘come on over’ for the evening.

It was the kickoff dinner in a series of dinners to be hosted by us bloggers. Well, they don’t have to be dinners. They can be crazy parties. Or chill parties. Or anything really, as long as they involve wine. Which nobody’s complaining about I’m sure. This dinner involved quite a lot of wine. And then out came the hats.

Okay now @brandslut_ & I have hats

And then came the Mo’s

And now we have mo's! #thankskwv :)

And then it was time to go home. Good times. Thanks KWV :)

Steri Stumpie flavour war is happening RIGHT NOW

04 Oct 2010, Posted by Cape Town Girl in cape town, drink, hilarious, lifestyle, music video, 0 Comments

Not sure if you’re aware of this but CTG has been under SEIGE from a pack of rabid Steri Stumpie fans who are adamant that their flavour is the best flavour. I’ve had to employ a decoy to leave and arrive before me for fear of being pelted with a flavour that doesn’t go with what I’m wearing. Last week The Marsh Pit came out with this serious serving of Zeftitude, and then a bunch of chocolate fanatics hit back with not one but TWO videos!

I’m not speechless yet but I am getting there. What’s going on? Are you guys okay? Has anyone else felt the effects of the flavour war? Does anyone have any idea why the fighting broke out? Please try and remain calm so as to limit theĀ  milkshed. And always remember your duty:

Nuga earrings

Stellenbosch Market

Had an amazing weekend despite having to postpone our Scuba course to next weekend (blocked nose – lame but apparently your ears can explode). Instead of Scuba we hit the Stellenbosch Food Market, which is like the Old Biscuit Mill Market except it’s in the vineyards not in the middle of Woodstock – I highly recommend.

Stellies market

Ladies shopping.

dresses

Lots of summer dresses and vintage stalls

Nuga earrings

Nuga earrings - Super cute - hard to choose

Sevruga lunch

Wearring my Nuga earrings

Had a braai on Saturday night and then hit Sunglass Hut with PD & LA for some new shades. Decided to break in some of the shoes Bronx Ladies sent:

Summer's here

'Stephanie' Dress & Jacket both Pepe, available at Stuttafords & Edgars. Shoes by Bronx ladies, shades are Ray Ban Clubmasters by Sunglass Hut

How they look from the front:

Cuffed wedges FTW

I love these wedges - they can stay.

Went a bit bonkers in Sunglass Hut. We tried on practically everything. We may have filmed some video footage. There may be a video coming later this week. There are some stunning shades in at the moment, like these D&G Madonna’s:
D&G Madonnas

And you’ll want to check out these Tom Fords too. After a lot of deliberation PD & I both settled on a pair of straight brow D&Gs – Jack Nicholson vibes, which go great with dresses and anything else super feminine
Sevruga lunch

and LA went for this season’s Roberto Cavalli’s - super pretty.
Sevruga lunch

We then went to Sevruga for lunch, where they plied us with pink drinks. No complaints! Took a stroll past Puma on our way out – am totally in love with their Alexander McQueen collaboration range. It’s STUNNING. PD shown here wearing one of the track tops:

Hope you had a good weekend? What did you do with all the SUMMER that showed up?

Jack Daniel’s Tik Tok Twitter Tasting

23 Aug 2010, Posted by Cape Town Girl in BFFs, CTG, cape town, characters, drink, girl stuff, hilarious, lifestyle, south africa, videos, whisky, 1 Comments

Ready to start the @JD_Tasting
So CTG, PD and LA hit up CTG HQ the other night to take part in a Jack Daniel’s Twitter Tasting. If you’re confused, don’t be: basically Jack Daniel’s sent us a bunch of whisky - their Single Barrel, their Gentleman’s Jack and good old Jack Daniel’s No. 7 - and we got to tasting it while tweeting about it.
Good old Jack Daniels: vanilla, nuts, oaks. Very easy drinking. @JD_Tasting

The thing about twitter tastings is that they don’t take much effort. So we had all this whisky and CTG’s iPod, which is when we remembered that Kei$ha sings about Jack Daniel’s in her song Tik Tok:

“Wake up in the morning feeling like P Diddy
Grab my glasses, I’m out the door, I’m gonna hit this city
Before I leave, brush my teeth with a bottle of Jack
‘Cause when I leave for the night, I ain’t coming back..”

Photo taken by CTG's Wine Expert @HarryReginald at the @JD_Tasting #cabfranc

So we did what any other self-respecting CTGs would do. We decided to dress up like Kei$ha and make a video!!! Uh huh! Please enjoy the ‘tasting notes’ you’ll find spread out amongst the dancing.

Thanks Jack Daniel’s, that was quite fun. Even though we felt NOTHING like P Diddy upon waking up the next morning…

xxCTG, PD & LA

Hmmm PD & LA both finding Gentleman Jack a little clean & sharp @JD_Tasting

New fav sushi spot: Nobu at One&Only Cape Town

23 Aug 2010, Posted by Cape Town Girl in CTG recommends, cape town, drink, food, hotels, lifestyle, sushi club, 0 Comments

decisions

Am typically Capetonian in that am a total creature of habit who gets very stressed out when I can’t get MY table in Beluga and MY heater at Sevruga and if I can’t eat ALL the crying rolls I order at Minato (like, if you want crying rolls, will you just order crying rolls and not eat mine okay? cool) and also I don’t really trust any sushi that doesn’t come from either Beluga or Sevruga or Minato’s and DESPITE all the time I spend at One&Only Cape Town I have not actually eaten the sushi at Nobu yet. Shocking, I know. So Saturday was time to ‘live on the edge’, ‘take a risk’ and try something new. Since Nobu is Paris Hilton’s second home we reckoned it couldn’t be that bad could it?

Nobu

You can watch the chefs making the sushi upfront

Nobu

Nobu at One&Only Cape Town

First impression would be the space – LOVE that you sit in intimate booths and LOVE the double triple volume that makes it so spacious and honestly, you come to Nobu because their service is so incredible you end up having a collaborative eating experience rather than a meal. After lengthy chats with the hostess we settled on a selection of their menu’s finest rather than ordering specific dishes, with a focus on white fish – not something we’ve eaten very much of.

whitefish sashimi

A selection of whitefish sashimi. Ask them what they have in - I could eat this all night. I basically did.

softshell crab rolls

Softshell Crab roll - stop right here because I CANNOT recommend these enough! Softshell crab is my sushi future!

Sushi salads usually disappoint me but the Lobster Salad with Spicy Lemon Dressing was completely OUT OF THIS WORLD.

lobster salad with spicy lemon dressing

Lobster salad with spicy lemon dressing

We were served a really delicious 10-year old Saki with the Lobster salad and it was yummy. Very clean and fruity with banana flavours. Ask for it when you go – it’s the Hokusetsu Ongakushu Semi-dry 10-year old.

dessert!

Dessert finished us. Passion fruit mousse jelly thing, chocolate fondant (best dessert on the menu IMHO), green tea ice cream, kelpers & pineappple sorbet (the other best dessert on the menu), malva pudding and a coffee mousse thing which was also delicious.

PD

After all this eating, Priscilla and I really should have gone home. But we didn't. We did something else instead, which I'm not sure about blogging yet. Oh Cape Town... you offer 2 girls too much on a Saturday night...

and so it starts

A story for another time...

A huge thanks to Nobu for being so utterly gracious in hosting CTG. The service was truly out of this world! And you absolutely have opened my mind to whitefish. It is the way forward! Salmon seems so… pink in comparison! Click here to make yourself a booking at Nobu. You won’t regret it. You may also never eat sushi anywhere else, which could be inconvenient but well, the risk is yours to take.

Pretty new product: BOS iced tea

06 Aug 2010, Posted by Cape Town Girl in CTG recommends, Design, drink, food, south africa, 1 Comments

How beautiful is this packaging? Got a sample of this new rooibos iced tea called BOS (love the name) created by the same guys who did Afro Coffee (also love their packaging). As a big fan of rooibos I had high hopes and have not been let down – it’s honestly good. Had a taste of the Slim version because teal is one of my favourite colours and it’s actually really good.

Stunning.

Also really like the Energy variant as it’s lightly sparkling. Definitely going to be picking these up for summer – the perfect beach accessory! They also came in a beach bag!

Love the localness too. Wonder how they’d mix as cocktails… Look out for them in shops in these gorgeous fridges:
