Chef’s Table at the Table Bay – should be good!

09 Sep 2011, Posted by Cape Town Girl in CTG, Parties, cape town, drink, food, hotels, restaurants, south africa, 0 Comments

Looking forward to this event at the Table Bay Hotel. So far I’ve eaten about 500 Lindt Balls and drunk a bottle of champagne and I haven’t even got to the Table Bay yet, so things are looking good. First we’ll be picked up  in a limo then we’ll be taught how to make all manner of delicious things while taking part in our own cooking show (literally a life-long dream of mine – been telling everyone, my hair is longer than Nigella’s so I’m definitely a better cook) and then we’ll ’suffer’ through a wine-tasting at the Atlantic Grill (what a tragedy) and then we’ll sample a few of the whiskies and cognacs at the Union Bar (love me a single malt).

to read up more about who’ll be attending it with me, you can click here. Looking forward to having CTG’s Official Wine Expert along. Should be hilarious!

what makes an ideal woman according to CTG’s Official Wine Expert Harry

Harry talks to Cosmo about his ideal woman. “Life is not one long porno movie” is probably the best quote out of this. Enjoy.

No Regret Fridays

05 Jul 2011, Posted by Cape Town Girl in CTG recommends, a good cause, drink, 0 Comments

I’m not a fan of over-indulging in alcohol. Heavy-drinking is a bit old-fashioned. A bit nineties. Like smoking. Plus if you do it too much it “makes you look 65 when you are actually 27″. I’m even less a fan of over-indulgers who do stupid things, especially drunk-driving.

Let us have a moment for everyone who has had someone injured or killed thanks to a drunk driver.

So I am in full support of SAB’s “No Regret Friday” campaign, which allows you to show your support and encourage your friends to be responsible with their drinking. You can get involved in a number of ways:

- by tweeting about it and using the hash tag #noregretfriday

- by logging onto www.noregretfriday.co.za to see personal accounts by people who have been affected by drunk driving

- by bugging your friends about it. Friends don’t let friends drive drunk. That would be like letting your friend commit suicide. That’s just not cool.

Go check out the website here www.noregretfriday.co.za and sign up for a Goodfellas membership here. Goodfellas will pick you up and drive your car home when you’ve had a few too many. And they will even put up with your drunken ramblings on the way home too. Now that’s a great service. Check out the video featuring Schalk Burger below – he’s also in support of No Regret Friday.

Just got my May @cosmopolitanSA - #cosqueens looking very glam ladies

The May Issue of Cosmo with Taylor Swift on the outside and CTG on the inside. Says the Twitter Queens article:

“Alex’s zebra-striped-and-turquoise wall will instantly lift your mood – never mind the funny one-liners, wry humour and links to fab entertainment on her timeline.” Thanks Cosmo.

Cute sandals at Louis Vuitton

Cute sandals for your summer trip to Majorca / Marrakesh / Durban. These are from my buddy LV. You can find his craft stall at the end of the designer wing at the V&A Waterfront, opposite the Gucci stall.

a trip up North

28 Mar 2011, Posted by Cape Town Girl in CTG, drink, holiday, hotels, interior, joburg, south africa, things to do, travel, 1 Comments

It's not Lion's Head but it's still quite pretty

Went on a little trip up North to ‘get some perspective’. And by perspective, I mean, meet some cool people, drink Johnnie Walker Black and go to cool places. I’m never fond of leaving the city bowl, but my fellow Capetonians, JHB isn’t so bad, if you know how to do it. Stick with me kids.

Def one of my new fab Jhb venues - Katzy's. #khayafm have done well. Just missing Mr Maloka?

Went to a Khaya FM Johnnie Black Jazz Party at Katzy’s. Love Katzy’s – it’s a jazz bar in the old school tradition at The Firs in Rosebank. Definitely a repeat venue for dinners and casual drinks for future Joburg trips.

Loving the Nike Run Your City social media campaign in Newtown. Where's CTs??

Had lunch at Sofiatown restaurant in Newtown. Spotted this Nike Run Your City wheatpaste / social media campaign. Apparently one was done in Cape Town, but in Woodstock, so I never saw it. Not sure who runs through Woodstock. Would be far too cumbersome carrying pepperspray and a tazer.

Anyone been to Neh! in Alex? I can dig it!

Went to Neh! in Alexandra. It’s a 3-story restaurant / bar / club that looks out over the township. Loved the VIP areas - all Courvoisier and Hennessy and purple velvet and Veuve.

Sundowner time in Joburg

More of the Neh bar. A CTG-approved selection.

Just cracked a bottle of Johnnie Black at Katzy's. Loving the jazz

Wearing leopard print harem pants and sipping a glass of Johnnie Black at the Katzy’s party.

Hayibo Tokoloshe!

Spotted this poster at Kospotong in Newtown – love it. Love the ‘Hayibo Tokoloshe’ caption too!

Staying at Da Vinci in Sandton. Cute wallpaper

Stayed at the Da Vinci hotel across the road from the Sandton Convention Centre. It’s got a great vibe – all black and white and silver. Great for a girls weekend, for future reference. Thanks for having me Joburg, it was fab.

Learn the art of sabrage with CTG

14 Mar 2011, Posted by Cape Town Girl in CTG, cape town, drink, lifestyle, south africa, wine, 0 Comments

Watch CTG learning the art of sabrage as taught by her patient wine expert (can be heard in the video). For those of you who don’t know how to do this, it’s actually quite simple.

Step 1: Line up your knife’s blade with the seam of the bottle.

Step 2: Push the knife along the system in one straight smooth movement.

Step 3: You follow the seam of the bottle with the knife, and let your momentum just tap off the top of the bottle.

Knowing this, it is the only way champagne will be drunk around here from now on.

Shades CTG wears in the video are Chanel, from Sunglass Hut.

Where my vamps hiding? You can come out now.

Vida continues to take over the world, opens another store in London

17 Feb 2011, Posted by Cape Town Girl in Coffee Club, cape town, drink, food, lifestyle, restaurants, sponsors, 0 Comments

Vida e are all about the love today

Great news for my London readers! Vida is now opening another store in your town, and it’s in Goodge Street. This is in addition to the one in Golden Square. Best you put your mouse here and like Vida UK on facebook, that way you’ll know as soon as the new store is open, and apparently it’s any day now. You know that this makes the prospect of London holidays far more bearable. CTG can really only exist in two places right now – London and South Africa – because there are no Vidas anywhere else. It’s like the law of gravity. Or a law of gravity. Pictured below is Green Point  store manager Elias on the right – he’ll be heading up the baristas in the new store. This is good news and sad news – we will miss you Elias!

I love that Vida take their baristas with them overseas. It just wouldn’t be Vida without them!

Sauvignon Blanc Blend & Food Pairing Exhibition

04 Feb 2011, Posted by Cape Town Girl in BFFs, CTG recommends, drink, food, restaurants, things to do, wine, 0 Comments

So we are looking MOST forward to attending the Sauvignon Blanc Blend & Food Pairing at Buitenverwachting Wine Estate on Saturday 26 February. It’s a while away but we are extremely excited to be attending since CTG’s Official Wine Expert will be MCing the event! That’s right, we do not mess around here at CTG.

An extract from the programme reads:

A selection of the best South African producers have been invited to attend this year’s event where they will exhibit their wines alongside the pre-eminent Peter Tempelhof (The Greenhouse of Cellars-Hohenort), Bertus Basson (Overture), Clayton Bell (Constantia Uitsig), Roland Gorgosilich (Grande Roche’s Bosman’s) and Edgar Osojnik (Buitenverwachting). All participating producers will be paired with these chefs so that guests will be able to select and taste both the wines and the canapés crafted especially for the wines.

It sounds just marvellous! Here is a full list of the wines. Click here for the full programme and to buy a ticket. They are R400 each and include all wine and food thereafter, but they are limited, since this is not your average ‘wine festival masquerading as student drinking brawl’. This is a classy affair chaps. See you there.

Read CTG’s Wine Expert’s Blog here (it’s a bag of laffs, really it is).

Brutal Fruit launches their new Cheeky Cranberry, throws a massive partay!

20 Dec 2010, Posted by Cape Town Girl in BFFs, CTG, Celebrity, Girlcrushes, Parties, bloggers, cape town, drink, fashion, girl stuff, 2 Comments

Fans lined up outside Ellerman House - very Hollywood!

So Friday was a bit of a frenzy as the Kardashians landed in Cape Town to launch new Brutal Fruit Cheek Cranberry. We were kindly invited by Brutal Fruit to come and chat to them – We filmed our chat and we’ll have that up in a bit.

keeping up with the Kardashians

They were very lovely girls and yes, Kim really is that pretty in real life, and Khloe really is that hilarious. They were staying at the ever lovely Ellerman House. If you’re looking for the perfect place to take a mini break in Cape Town, Ellerman House is a great choice. You can stay in the main house, or you can go for the more private villa which has it’s own pool, and a view over the Atlantic Sea. It’s really stunning, case in point:

Just chillin here by the pool ;) <3 cape town

The party itself was incredible. The venue was the Fugard Theatre in town, and there was a queue from early on

But once night fell the old Theatre really came into its own. Really one of the most striking venues I’ve been to in ages.

The BF Cheeky Audi was given away to kick off the party - lucky winner Johan was ecstatic. Here is SA beauty Bonang Matheba on the car. We have a HUGE girlcrush on Bonang, we’ll post more about that later.

The interior was just as fab, with delicious pink goodies everywhere.

As you arrived you got a voucher to purchase a fun pink, sparkly item at the Cheeky Counter below (MEJ got a pink tie, I went for a hat)

and the Kardashians stole the show from the comfort of their VIP lounge (much of this snapping was happening, as you might well imagine)

The DJ was brilliant and totally hitting the mark, hence these cats were busting out the sickest formation dance moves I’ve seen since my heyday on the speakers at Tiger:

Just take a look at this vaulted ceiling – so pretty. So inner city. So Gossip Girl underground charity benefit.

This venue is insanely awesome

And then there was a massage room where you could kick off your heels, enjoy some cranberry cocktails and have your photo taken in the photo booth.

Oh my gosh they're giving massages #BFCheeky

What a night. I think we can all give a round of applause to Brutal Fruit for pulling off the ‘most talked-about party of the year’ with their Cheeky Cranberry launch, am I right? I got an email from a girl so desperate to go she offered to work for me for free for 3 months if I could get her on the list. Outrageous! Apologies to all who asked for tickets – it really was impossible to get extras.

PS. Have you tasted Cheeky Cranberry yet? Ask for one next time you’re out – it’s one of my favourite BF flavours. If the venue you’re at doesn’t have it, go somewhere else.
