watched the A-team. Not sure what it was about.

03 Sep 2010, Posted by Cape Town Girl in CTG, Celebrity, movies, 1 Comments

Watched the A-team last night. Here’s what I know for sure:

1. That black dude with PITY and FOOL tattooed on his knuckles was quite cool, but a bit emo. I don’t like my cool big black dudes to be emo. Did anyone else find him emo? Like that vibe where he gets freed and then he trims his hair and there’s this deep moment where we see he hasn’t given himself a mohawk again? He’s just given himself a normal trim? Like, tragedy! I’m not sure that scene actually happened since I did drift in and out of sleep. But that was the vibe.. and it was emo..

2. Sharlto Copley was really funny. Especially when he sang ‘You spin me right round baby right round’ while clinging to the helicopter blades. Also loved all his crazy faces. He was a great crazy guy. You just look at him and you laugh. And then when he’s not on screen you think, what is going on in this movie? Who are these people? Why do they keep saying something about a plan coming together?

3. Bradley Cooper is HOT. More please.

Guys that movie was really confusing. I know it was meant to touch me somewhere deep, to evoke some kind of nostalgia, or something, but I also realised while watching it that even though I THOUGHT I’d watched A-team when I was younger, I clearly hadn’t because I didn’t know who anyone was or what was going on.

Anybody else seen A-team? Anyone else have that kind of revelation? Anybody else feel confused? Going to have to watch Inception just to feel a little less confused.

Tea & Macarons?

Hey remember when I went to that new Massage place in Gardens – enmasse? Where I had my first oil-free Thai Massage? Well I’ve got 5 x 2-for-the-price-of-1 enmasse treatments to give away to CTG readers this week. Sounds good right? Grab your BFF & go get yourself each a Thai Massage for the price of one. If you’d like to win, just tell me what 2 things you need to get your relaxation on. Is it a massage & a facial? A cup of tea & some macarons? A double-vodka & Red Bull?

A nun & a gun?

I won’t judge you. Just tell me what takes you to your happy place. Leave a comment or email me editor@capetowngirl.com

How to use a lift. Again.

01 Sep 2010, Posted by Cape Town Girl in CTG, The Rules, WTF, a good cause, 4 Comments

CTG goes to great lengths to ensure a pleasurable every day life experience. This includes living in a pleasurable apartment block, close to a pleasurable place of work, surrounded by pleasurable shops and food and people, ignoring all that is not pleasurable in the slightest way. Generally this works really well, but sometimes things happen that we cannot control. Very vexing, confusing things.

One such thing happened yesterday morning.

As I was stepping out of the elevator this morning, Vida & Crush fruit salad in hand, the lift doors opened and before I could step out ANOTHER WOMAN STEPPED IN. Stepped in, before I could get out. She might as well have asked me to slowdance, since I was moving out, and she simply couldn’t wait a SECOND longer to get in the lift, so she ended up moving towards me, effectively thrusting us together in some form of fumbling, flourescent-bulb lit embrace. Um. Can anyone say awkward turtle?

I know I have covered this before, but I understand that change has to happen incrementally, so here’s another attempt to convey sound personal space principles. Basically,

WAIT FOR THE PERSON INSIDE THE LIFT TO GET OUT BEFORE YOU GET IN, or:

Why, you ask, wringing your hands in perplexed agony. WHY CTG WHY??? WE DO NOT GET IT??? WHY DO YOU HAVE THIS STRANGE PHOBIA? WHY DO YOU HATE PEOPLE? WHAT DID I DO?

Allow me to explain. If you get in before the person inside has got out, you effectively BLOCK them from getting out, and you create an awkward situation where I must do a little dance with you in order to shuffle myself to the exit while you shuffle yourself even further in. Adding to the confusion is the ‘which side to go???’ dilemma, which sees the two of us smashing into each other, touching each other way more than 2 strangers should ever have to, and me, the poor soul who is JUST TRYING TO GET OUT OF THE LIFT must make complex social and spacial calls in order to ‘get through’ this situation without having my personal space completely invaded.

So you see. Please. Just wait for whomever is in the lift to get out before you get in. I don’t think this is complicated.

Is it? Why do people do it???

Getting some inspiration from the 90s

So… CTG, LA & PD are working on a dance track. We figure, since we got this video vibe going, we might as well make music to do our dances to, or Sony is going to ‘be up in our faces’ forever, which is no good. So we’re working with a (real!) producer and writing some super deep lyrics about going out and dancing and having fun, which is a cause we firmly and strongly believe in, so we’ve been doing a bunch of referencing tracks that inspire us, which led us to Ace of Base – The Sign – which led us to a whole BUNCH of 90s album artwork covers. Which are truly hilarious. Guys, what was going down in the 90s that led us to style our pop culture icons like angry Swedish teenagers? Like, all of them???

Got to love the collage work, the faces blooming forth from the rose

A rose, but there is some anger. You can see it lurking in her elfen bangs.

rainbow gradients - too good! peroxide! yes!

The name of the album says it all - deadly! in that lovely SandScript too. Super hardcore.

There are a lot of fists happening in that image above. Should we fist on our album cover??? These are all things we must consider.

Oh yeah. Let's rave out. Let's rave out to some synths. In my crop top.

You would be forgiven for thinking that TLC is the name of a weekend burger special at Wimpy. I've forgiven myself. Forgive yourself.

Uh. We're in trouble. Dyed our hair with peroxide then tried to get it brown again and it turned out pink so we wrote a song. Gonna sulk it off.

Very inspiring. We feel very inspired. PD & LA are coming over this evening, and we’re going to print out all these images and stick them up on our studio wall while we ‘lay down some vocals’. It’s gonna be great. We can’t wait. Can you wait??

Guys, I really dunno about my Friday wishes post… think I was having a ‘tough time‘. I mean the sloths and the snowdawgy are okay but the rest… wow… just want you to know that I’m better now. Anyway so RAINY saturday. Sunny Sunday. Busy in all kinds of ways.

Went to Canal Walk. After 15 minutes, we were basically suicidal, and fled outside to take in gulps of fresh air. There was a trolley in the fountain, in the rain. Seconds from slitting our wrists, we got Vida and fled the mall entirely, but not without being first bumped, jostled and *touched* by freaks who have no concept of personal space. What is it with people who shop at Canal Walk not having a clue about personal space? Seriously? Anyone else find this to be true, or is it just me?

Canal Walk. Doesn't this MAKE you want to die?

Weekend started on brighter note with Anna’s Farewell party. We went to Sidewalk Cafe in Vredehoek. Ordered the Caesar Salad. Rich, but in a good way.

Anna & Jenny

Jenny & Mark

R&R

Ryan & Rikus

Went to Cassis for Macarons. Got distracted and came out with macarons +.

oh nom

Had coffee at Montebello in the trees. Wore my new Vintage-inspired Chanel shades which have the cutest daisy detail on the arms (click to see) and amazing enamel detail in the frames too. I adore these! Definitely keepers.

Vintage-inspired Chanels. We like.

TC in the Chanels. Pretty!

Discovered a great sushi special on Kloof Street at Best of Asia, opposite the Spar. Basically it’s order a plate of one colour, get a plate of the same colour free. Great sushi, and they serve you a beautiful fruit dessert after too! (these things make all the difference)

Super cute.

How was your weekend?

My Friday wishes for you

Jack Daniel’s Tik Tok Twitter Tasting

23 Aug 2010, Posted by Cape Town Girl in BFFs, CTG, cape town, characters, drink, girl stuff, hilarious, lifestyle, south africa, whisky, 1 Comments

Ready to start the @JD_Tasting
So CTG, PD and LA hit up CTG HQ the other night to take part in a Jack Daniel’s Twitter Tasting. If you’re confused, don’t be: basically Jack Daniel’s sent us a bunch of whisky - their Single Barrel, their Gentleman’s Jack and good old Jack Daniel’s No. 7 - and we got to tasting it while tweeting about it.
Good old Jack Daniels: vanilla, nuts, oaks. Very easy drinking. @JD_Tasting

The thing about twitter tastings is that they don’t take much effort. So we had all this whisky and CTG’s iPod, which is when we remembered that Kei$ha sings about Jack Daniel’s in her song Tik Tok:

“Wake up in the morning feeling like P Diddy
Grab my glasses, I’m out the door, I’m gonna hit this city
Before I leave, brush my teeth with a bottle of Jack
‘Cause when I leave for the night, I ain’t coming back..”

Photo taken by CTG's Wine Expert @HarryReginald at the @JD_Tasting #cabfranc

So we did what any other self-respecting CTGs would do. We decided to dress up like Kei$ha and make a video!!! Uh huh! Please enjoy the ‘tasting notes’ you’ll find spread out amongst the dancing.

Thanks Jack Daniel’s, that was quite fun. Even though we felt NOTHING like P Diddy upon waking up the next morning…

xxCTG, PD & LA

Hmmm PD & LA both finding Gentleman Jack a little clean & sharp @JD_Tasting

Portrait of a Nation

between shots

A few weeks ago I had the honour of being shot by photographer Andrew Brauteseth for his Portrait of a Nation project. Mildly intimidating since the subject before me was Helen Zille. Even further intimidating because Andrew was on this ‘extreme natural’ trip and wouldn’t let me put on makeup (I did manage to get away with a little eyeshadow). Despite this I went ahead bravely. Am hardcore like that. Makeup, No makeup, whatevs. I think the shots came out really nicely, the one below being the final selection for the project (click to see).

final portrait

Some of the other shots we quite liked:

moody

gentle

There are some very funny shots which I’ve not included here because they just open up too many strange questions, but I will state categorically that this was one of the funnier shoots I’ve been on. Thanks Andrew! Good times!

Had a good and lovely little mini break! And the weather played summer-summer too! Glorious. Think drinking Vida and swinging with the kiddies on the promenade
A swing on the prom

Trying on engagement rings with BFF (bridesmaid duties! so much fun!)

Pretty pear cut

Mmmmm pretty sparkly stones
Of course nothing compares to a simple set solitaire - decisions decisions...

Lots of running, offset by eating LOTS AND LOTS of macarons! These ones are from Cassis. Vanilla and Pistachio are my two favourite flavours by far.

Macaron heaven at Cassis

Eating LOTS AND LOTS of sushi. Frances pictured here at Sevruga

Sushi sauvage

Picked up a pair of very unique Roberto Cavalli’s from Sunglass Hut at the Waterfront. Because WHAT is summer without a pair of statement shades? It’s a joke, that’s what.

Just picked up some very unique Roberto Cavalli's at @SunglassHutSA. Intricate detailing

Listened to David Bowie vinyls… on repeat…

“Take a look at the Lawman
Beating up the wrong guy
Oh man! Wonder if he’ll ever know
He’s in the best selling show..”

Wowie Bowie

Went to watch Farryl Purkiss at &Union. Super chilled, super prego rolls.

'Who're you trying to please?'

Got a Flash for my Diana camera and took lots and lots of photos, still to be developed. This pic is taken using my iPhone and the Diana flash - you can literally track the flash as it moves. Quite a mission to take pics like this but still lots of fun, especially with all those pretty colour gels.

Diana flash, green gel & iPhone - trippy

We got our makeup done by the lovely ladies at Estee Lauder. Ladies, have you tried the Advanced Repair Eye Cream? This is not a gratuitous product punt. As a girl who loves her eye makeup (like, if I’m going to lounge around in bed in lingerie all day, I’ll get up, put on makeup, and then get back into bed and lounge), I can honestly say that the Lauder eye cream product is amazing. I feel a whole lot less bad plastering on panda paint now that eyes are receiving some form of moisturising redemption.

Just had our makeup done at Estee Lauder... Feel so pretty :) @ulul1

We also spent a night at the Old Mac Daddy Luxury Trailer Park in Elgin, but that’s a whole other post, soon to follow…

We found the luchadore costumes as we were leaving - http://www.oldmacdaddy.co.za

Miss u holiday. You were awesome.

Write for shoes Ladies! A year’s supply of shoes!

Bronx Ladies SA is running anĀ  Blogger Search where you can win a WHOLE YEAR’S SUPPLY OF SHOES. Just take a moment to process that. An ENTIRE YEAR’S SUPPLY OF SHOES. The thought of it sets CTG’s heart aflutter. Just think – you could wear a different pair of shoes EVERY DAY and still be spoilt for choice. It’s actually almost too much to cope with…

Back to the point, Bronx is looking for a gorgeous, sexy girl-about-town who leads a fun, fashion-and-party-filled lifestyle, who would write about everything from what’s hot on the catwalks to what’s hot in their wardrobes right now. Basically, a totally fun, awesome chick blogger who is, dare I say it, a bit like CTG. Except CTG cannot enter because CTG will be judging the competition, along with the super glam Dimi Ingle, editor of StyleScoop.

How to enter:

1. Write a 300-word post on a topic of your choice. It could be a cool outfit you spotted, or your opinion on a new trend, or whatever really. Post it on your blog or send it to write4shoes@gmail.com.

2. Tell us in 200 words or less why you think you should write for Bronx Ladies SA.

3. Answer the simple questions you’ll find on the How To Enter page here.

Closing date for entries is 28 August 2010, so get your entries in quick quick! You might want to read CTG’s ‘What Does It Take To Be A Chick Blogger’ for some inspiration ;P
