Could you be the Estee Lauder Beauty Glamour Girl?

25 Jan 2012, Posted by Cape Town Girl in beauty, beauty products, competitions, girl stuff, 2 Comments

Do you love trying out beauty and makeup products? Do you like writing and having an opinion and sharing your life online? Does the idea of receiving all the new Estee Lauder products to try out for yourself and sharing your thoughts on them for other Estee Lauder fans sound appealing? Do you one day aspire to get into beauty or journalism? Looking to get exposure for your beauty blog? Then you should probably head on over here and put yourself forward as Estee Lauder’s Beauty Glamour Girl.

From the official statement:

“The Beauty Glamour Girl will receive Estée Lauder products to review and share her reviews with the ladies on the Estée Lauder South Africa Facebook page. She will be the first to try new Estée Lauder products, attend launches and report on all things beauty. This opportunity is open to all ladies who wish to pursue their love for writing and sharing their opinions with others.”

The closing date for the applications is soon – 27 January - so submit your entry asap. You have to answer 3 questions, which you’ll see when you click ‘Apply Now’. Those questions are:

1) What makes a woman beautiful?

2) What does the Estee Lauder brand mean to you?

3) Why do you want to be the Estee Lauder Glamour Girl?

If you’re a Lauder fan already, as I am, you’ll probably be able to answer those questions in your sleep, especially that last one, it’s a no-brainer. Ten finalists will then be announced, and treated to counter experiences in both beauty and fragrance which you will write about. Then Estee Lauder fans will vote for their favourite review, and the winner will be announced on 27 February 2012.

What are you waiting for? Click here to submit your application. This could be your beauty writing break.

Dress-up time: Win 2 x tickets to the 5 For Change Event

18 Jan 2012, Posted by Cape Town Girl in CTG recommends, Parties, cape town, competitions, fashion, shopping, south africa, 7 Comments

Have you got your ticket for 5 For Change yet? If you don’t know about it, it’s a Black Tie fundraiser that is raising money for 5 charities that are making a change in our world. Click here to read about the beneficiaries. Tickets are R200, and include performances by Jeremy Loops, I Scream & The Chocolate Stix as well as The Wedding DJs. There will also be great prize giveaways, and everyone will look like they stepped out of Gossip Girl. All for 5 really good causes. Party of the year I’d say, and we’re only in January! Book a ticket here.

I do have a pair of tickets to give to a CTG reader though. If you’d like to win them, just comment here or email editor@capetowngirl.com and tell me how, if you could change the world in one way for the better, what you would do. I’ll announce the winner earl Friday morning, so you still have a chance to organise something gorgeous to wear.

On that topic, I can’t resist the excuse to dress up, especially Black Tie, so yesterday went through to Our Wardrobe to pick out something pretty to wear. How gorgeous is this sequinned number by Catherine Moore? Ah, obsessed!

Best you bookmark and sign up for updates with this site ladies – ourwardrobe.co.za - because it’s going to change your life when they open for business in March.

You know how we’d all love to have a new designer dress for every event? Except designer dresses cost so much you often end up going for dresses you can wear over and over again (ie. safe options)? Well now you can go for the show-stoppers by renting them from Our Wardrobe. You have the option to buy as well, so if you just can’t let go of your dress after a magical night out, you can pay the balance of the cost in and keep it. Because it’s not just a dress. It’s an evening of memories that will last a lifetime (let’s just take a moment for this gorgeous red number, also Catherine Moore).

Now Black Tie – as most of you should have googled – is about 3 main things.

1.) Dresses should cover the knee – 3/4 or full length gowns. Tonight is not the night of the LBD. Showing leg is generally seen as being casual (unless it’s through a side-slit).

2.) Elegant, flattering cuts. Plunging necklines, slits, low backs. Drama over skin.

3.) Shimmering, sparkling fabrics, sequins, satins, lace. Bring out the bling, Black Tie is your time to sparkle and shine.

Some more sequinned inspiration from Our Wardrobe below:

I won’t show you the dress I chose just yet because I’m saving that for the night. But I hope to see you all there! X

Some of my favourites from the Accessorize summer range. And they’re giving away an iPad on their facebook page.

Loving the new Accessorize Spring / Summer and beach ranges. Went into the store and had a fight with myself over whether you could wear a leopard print bikini with a leopard print kaftan. The lovely store assistant calmed things down by saying that was quite acceptable, and also suggesting that I get a floral bikini to wear under the leopard print kaftan. Crisis averted! Here are some of my best pieces:

Such pretty floral sandals.

Floral bikini aptly called ‘The Amalfi’.

Stunning leopard print kaftan that caused all the drama in the first place.

A floral fan. I MUST have one for beach times!

The bikini. Worth having a fight with yourself over.

And most excitingly, Accessorize are giving away an iPad 2 with a gorgeous Accessorize iPad cover on their facebook page! Just head on over there and enter by CLICKING HERE!

So much goodness, where does one even start?

got smash ‘n grabbed

06 Jul 2011, Posted by Cape Town Girl in competitions, cool websites, gaming, 2 Comments

So thieves got my stuffs. Sad face. Double sad face cos this happened in real life too! Monday morning, car window broken. Monday morning take two, log into living it up, smash ‘n grabbed. Starting to feel like ‘a victim of the non-working class’. Should I move to Australia?????

I wonder if you can ‘move to Australia’ in the Standard Bank Living It Up game. Maybe things will get better by me winning the BMW 320i. Maybe they won’t. Guess I just gotta ‘accept that I live in a country where the ANC Youth League get richer and poor people smash your window to steal half a bottle of energade’. Yes, am struggling a bit.

Anyway, my l’il house on the Std Bank prairie is looking good. I gots lotsa animals. Even got an ‘animal lover’ badge. Also have a Great Pyramid. It’s a real talking point when I have guests over for dinner. Have you registered here yet to play? Well please don’t.  Stay far away so I can win the Beemer. You only have until the 24 July anyway.

PS. Check out how I’m doing in the blogger challenge here.

over sitting in traffic? it’s time to break free.

13 Jun 2011, Posted by Cape Town Girl in cars, competitions, technology, 0 Comments

In a darker time of my life, I lived in Joburg. I actually didn’t have that bad a time, when I wasn’t sitting in traffic. But for the most part of  my life there, I was spending quality time adding up number plates and trying ‘make the numbers balance’ while I did my daily 40 mins to and from work. Don’t pretend you haven’t been there. CT also has traffic, I’d be lying if I said it didn’t. But unlike Joburg, there is usually a quick detour – you just have to know where to go. And thanks to the Tom Tom Go Live 1000 device I’ve been using for the past few months, I’ve literally not sat in traffic once, because this unbelievable piece of technology tells you when there’s traffic, and then directs you around it. Can you say BTFF? (Best Traffic Friend Forever)

Did you know that South Africans actually rate as some of the most frustrated drivers in the world? Not surprising – traffic basically dictates our lives – when we leave, from where… it’s a nightmare. I would like you all to experience the joy of never having to sit in traffic again, so I’ll be giving away the latest TomTom Via 120 to a CTG reader, and to win, you simply need to upload a video of yourself singing Queen’s “I want to break free” in traffic onto the TomTom facebook page.  Here’s John Cleese doing his version, just to get you inspired:

Once you’ve upload your video onto the TomTomSA facebook page, send me a link to it and you’ll go into the draw to win the Via 120. If you read the facebook page competition, you’ll see that by entering there, you also stand the chance to win the grand prize of a Renault Megane AND one of 4 break free adventures to places such as Costa Rica, Namibia, Antarctica and a TRIP TO SPACE. Yes just go check out the competition page – it will blow your mind. So just to recap:

You singing + video + send link to me could =

and

(I’m not giving away the Renault – just the TomTom). You’ve got 2 weeks to get me  your entries. Editor@capetowngirl.com. Go!

and the winners are…
