Guys I had the pleasure of chatting to the fabulous Lindiwe Suttle, who’s single ‘Man Made Moon’ is on my iPod between Lady Gaga’s Judas and Willow Smith’s 21st Century Girl. Lindiwe is the face of Woolworth’s latest Beauty campaign, part of the Woolworths Winter “Come Together” campaign. Lindiwe is an amazing lady. She’s worked as a stylist to Beyonce and Ciara, and as a buyer for brands such as DKNY and Kenneth Cole. You can totally see this coming through in the fashion film she made for her first single Man Made Moon (click here to watch it – its awesome) – it’s being released next month so listen out for it on air. Massive respect to this entrepreneurial diva, who clearly works extremely hard at creating her destiny.

1) Hey Lindiwe, CTG here. You look gorgeous and elegant in the new Woolies beauty campaign. Are you happy with the way it turned out?
I am so pleased. This is my first beauty campaign and it is such an honour to be associated with such an iconic brand like Woolworths. I feel the campaign is a celebration of the various races we have in SA.

2)The ‘Come Together’ theme for Winter is friendly and fun and stylish. I love it and the song too. Are you a Beatles fan? What’s your favourite song of theirs?
All artists have to love the Beatles. If you read about their work ethic when they started out, you can only respect how hard they worked to achieve their larger than life appeal and status. Their melodies are genius and my favourite  song has to be ‘Hey Jude’.

3)Your video for ‘Man Made Moon’ featured loads of local fashion and jewellery designers and some seriously fierce makeup looks. Am I right in saying that fashion and beauty seem to be as much a creative outlet for you as music?
Just to confirm, this was a ‘fashion film’, rather than a music video. It was released as part of my single Man Made Moon, the fashion film showcases the talented local designers I used and some behind-the-scenes footage of the stills photo shoot I did.

A still from Man Made Moon - so deliciously fashion forward - I love it!

4)I am a huge fan of both the Sisley and Benefit brands at Woolworths. What’s your pick of the Woolworths beauty spread? Any products you can’t live without?
I love the Woolworths Private Label range. Their long lasting lipsticks and nail polish colors are my favourite.

5) What’s your beauty quick-fix after a big night out or a long day on set / in studio?
My mom always knows best and always said, even after a big night on the town, always wash your face before you go to bed, never fall asleep with makeup on and also use extra moisturizer to allow your skin breathe and not dehydrate.

6) I believe beauty is an inherent part of being a woman. What, in your opinion, makes a woman beautiful?
I know you hear it all the time but it’s all about inner beauty, a genuine smile also goes a long way. While I was shooting the Woolworths campaign, I remained positive thoughout the day and  I think this positive spirit comes out in my eyes especially in the campaign shot.

7) Which artists inspire you? Musically and in terms of beauty and fashion, and why?
Lyrically, Bjork, Tori Amos, Sia and Lady Gaga are my favourite female songwriters. Musically, I love Radiohead, I respect the band and I think they understand the importance of sound and how to take their fans to a different world.

Thank you Lindiwe. You look stunning love! Listen out for Man Made Moon – it’s gonna be everywhere soon – and look out for Lindiwe in Woolworths stores across the country. So lovely!

Spa Sunday Review: The Bastien Gonzalez Mani: Pedi: Cure experience

04 Apr 2011, Posted by Cape Town Girl in CTG recommends, beauty, cape town, girl stuff, lifestyle, south africa, spa saturdays, things to do, weekends, 2 Comments

Just had a Bastien Gonzalez manicure, pedicure & massage from Kim & Celeste at @OOCapeTown. I am a better woman for it.

One&Only Island Spa - where the Bastien Gonzalez studio is located

Yesterday I went for a Bastien Gonzalez Manicure and Pedicure as an Easter treat to myself. They have a ‘chocoholics special’ on at the moment. The treatment involves cocoa-infused products so I figured it would be a better option that Easter Eggs, which really just set one back in the skinny jeans department, and with winter coming up well… Anyway, I’d heard loads about it, but having been for many such treatments in my life, the truth is I wasn’t expecting anything vastly different, apart from the fact that I had booked a ‘natural treatment’, as in, they weren’t going to paint my nails. Now if you paint your nails a lot you’ll know that it kinda messes up your nails, so in fact I was skeptical that this would be better than having some colour put on.

Bastien Gonzalez does do colour if you want - but I went for the natural treatment.

But I was completely surprised. The Bastien Gonzalez method is all about restoring nail health, rather than splashing out with colours, so it’s great for holidays and times when you want to take a break from the grooming cycle. The Gonzalez method eliminates the yellow from previous coats of paint, and restores the nails to their natural pink, and shapes them in a way that means they grow out stronger and healthy and look gorgeous – yet don’t have a stitch of paint on them! Kim & Celeste were my therapists and Kim did an amazing job of explaining to me what she was doing. First all existing colour was removed, then the nails were shaped, and then buffed. The whole thing was done dry – no soaking in water, only a swift coat of paraffin.

They buffed my nails with an exfoliant made from ground up pearls – called Stardust Buffing Paint- and then they polished the buffed nails with a chammy (am not kidding) and added some cuticle drops and the result was that my nails look like I’d had a French Manicure but they literally have nothing on them, not even a gloss. And they are smoother than if there was a gloss on them. Magic!

There is nothing on my nails. Not a thing. No jokes.

The same was done to my feet, and after the nails were done, I got a hand and foot massage with cocoa-infused paraffin wax which was just incredible, and makes you want to eat your hands and feet, and comes as part of the treatment. Luckily they give you Lindt hot chocolate to stop you gnawing on your paws. Guys – this is a great Easter gift for ladies and they have an Easter special on. Check it out here until special offers or call 021 431 5810 or email reservations@oneandonlycapetown.com. The special runs until the end of April.

A few months ago I blogged about the Shinso Skincare launch that PD and I attended at my bestest Reyjeane Spa & Salon, and E! News was there to cover it. How lovely does owner Reyjeane look on camera? The product is pretty remarkable – you can feel the effect within minutes. We here at CTG are a fan. To see pics from the launch click  here.

It’s the Duchess of Alba’s birthday, above. What do you think she wants for her special day?

Why smiles are awesome

It’s been a while since we sat down and had a nice (video) chat, but on Sunday LA & CTG sat down to talk about smiles, and why they are infinitely preferable to pouts. We got onto the topic because LA has just had her teeth whitened with WhiteSmile Clinic, and I wanted to know about her experience since I have considered having it down many times but have never actually taken the plunge. We also cover topics such as LA going brunette, and whether or not the pout was ‘invented in Tiger Tiger’. Enjoy.

Eyelash extensions at dealio.co.za

www.dealio.co.za

Morning everyone. Have you gotten into the group buying phenomenon yet? No? It’s where you pay a hugely discounted price for a product or service because a whole bunch of people are buying it. So it’s like buying in bulk, individually, and it brings down the price of some HDI’s drastically (HDI = Highly Desirable Items). I see dealio is featuring one of CTG’s favourite things of all time – Eyelash Extensions! And they’re going for the insane price of R330. I usually pay R690 for mine, so that’s quite a saving. To buy the Dealio eyelash extension deal click here.

Not quite sure how it works? That’s fine - read a step-by-step breakdown of it here. This is the future of shopping.

If you’re beautiful, you’re probably smart too.
