This movie looks sensationally thrilling, like a South African Sixth Sense, but with none of the US cheesiliciousness. Can’t WAIT to watch it. More here.
Thanks to CTG reader Angela in Germany who sent me this, the trailer for Black Butterflies, the movie about South African poet legend Ingrid Jonker, described by some as ‘South Africa’s Sylvia Plath’, and in Nelson Mandela’s own words:
“She was both a poet and a South African. She was both an Afrikaner and an African.
She was both an artist and a human being. In the midst of despair, she celebrated hope. Confronted by death, she asserted the beauty of life.”
Looks like a tear jerker but definitely one to watch. The movie itself is set in Cape Town and features lots of local scenes you will recognise. Jonker is an SA legend – go read her work if you don’t know it. She published her first collection of poems before she was 13. Child prodigy stuff 2 the max.
The Vanilla-infused Champagne Macaron. Created by Daniela's. Inspired by CTG.
As most CTG-readers know, I am a fan of the macaroon. I discovered this French delicacy a little over a year ago, and have been an ardent consumer of its egg-white-almondy goodness ever since. The lovely Dani Dotan, owner of Daniela’s Deliciously Decadent Confectionary, sent through these studio shots of a macaron she created – inspired by CTG. Have you ever seen a thing more beautiful?
The CTG macaroon is vanilla-infused champagne flavour – honestly, I don’t really know what to do with myself. A box of these magical macaroons is making its way to me as I type this, so I shall be sure to give you a full review of the CTG-inspired macaron when they arrive. Let’s just comprehend what we are dealing with here:
Vanilla. By far my favourite macaroon flavour (before the CTG flavour, of course)
And champagne. Another favourite flavour. Bubbly for breakfast y'all!
Put them together and you get:
Nom nom nom
Or rather:
It's just too wonderful. I want to reach out and become one with it (via eating it).
And if you are also a macaroon-lover,be sure to enter their competition they’re running where you send in a picture of your ‘deliciously decadent macaroon face’ and you can win a giant box of macaroons. That doesn’t sound too hard at all! Click here for details.
Got sent this cute l’il drawing of CTG on a cup by Virgin Active. They’re running a facebook promo where you order a coffee from a Virgin Active canteen, you get a cupface cup, and you draw your face on the cup and upload it onto their cupface facebook page. If lots of people like your cup, you win cool stuff. Check it out.
Been considering this zebra wall tattoo. For Casa CTG. Perhaps you have noticed my blog sports a zebra background tattoo. Am going for a theme here, despite the fact that the zebra print was inspired by The Blogging Gown worn in this video, which is actually white tiger print (I know, so complicated). It’s been a journey to the zebra, basically. Anyway there’s a great deal on dealio this week where you can get 50% off the usual price of wall tattoos and pay only R175. I just can’t say no ( on the site it says the deal has tipped so it means if you buy, the discount is a sure thing, FYI). I like wall tattoos because they are more graphic than art, and depending on how you use them, they can totally change a space, see below.
Yes, all the goodness of your favourite arty mag, now on your smartphone. All you gotta do is type in www.onesmallseed.com/issue(numberofissue). Pretty rad.
AM / PM are pretty exceptional, too. They are not available for sale publicly at the moment but you can email the designer, Daniel Ting Chong, and he’ll make you up a custom set. Hit him up at dtingchong@gmail.com. It’s also worth checking out his site – he makes some very pretty things. We approve.
Soooooo bummed y’alls. Wanted to put this in my guest bathroom. Had my eye on it for a while. Even bought matching black & white fluffy covers for my marble loo. And then BAM, someone snapped it up for$35 million. Guess that’s ‘just the way art goes’. Dear Andy Warhol, wish. you. were. here. 35 million. Damn.
Visual diaries – for those who are ‘not creative’ (what that really means is that you are ‘denying being creative’, because we are ALL creative – please – let’s take a moment here) are books filled with mementos, inspirational pictures, ideas and scribblings that keep a ‘theme’ or ‘thought process’ going for an artist / writer / fashion designer / photographer, and photographer Cecil Beaton’s has just been published.
Who is Cecil Beaton? Why, he had the honour of photographing Grace Kelly, Marilyn Monroe, Queen Elizabeth, Greta Garbo, Audrey Hepburn… I could go on. Here’s some of his work:

Amazing right? Perfect for summer reading by the poolside, or if you love a picture of a beautiful woman. Popping it on my christmas list.
