Become a Red Carpet Style Reporter

14 Jul 2010, Posted by Cape Town Girl in Celebrity, advertising, competitions, fashion, girl stuff, south africa, 0 Comments

Girls, if CTG wasn’t ‘already famous’ she would so enter this! Softlips is doing a search for a Red Carpet Style Reporter – pretty cool! The whole thing’s being run off facebook, so if you know any pretty young things over the age of 17 you should totally tell them to search for Softlips South Africa to find out how to enter. The prize: A column in Seventeen Magazine, a wardrobe by YDE and tickets to the hottest parties in town. You’ll also get followed around by your own camera crew. Oh, AND an iPhone – basically the most important part!

Check out the pics of the Stylistas in the running to see who’s already entered. Here are some of the entries so far. Dang. SA’s got some very pretty girls! Good luck ladies. I sure would LOVE that YDE wardrobe…. Click here to enter.

Pretty!

Super hot!

Very pretty!

Happy Monday. Hope y’all made the most of this stunner of a weekend. I’ve got a little treat for you. Friends of mine – Jen & Cuan - are in France for the Cannes Advertising Festival, and they have been documenting their adventures online. Click here to read their shared blog about it, and click here to follow Jen’s posterous. This is the kind of thing you’ll be having to deal with though, so be warned:

Of course it’s also a bit of wine fest. Exhibit A:

Therefore we can reasonably conclude that:

Looks like a pretty sweet adventure. Click here to follow Jen and her adventures in France with Cuan.

In the wake of the hilarious Nomu 2oceansvibe ‘Touch me on my poster’ competition, CTG presents the Nomu ‘Storm in a sweet rub’ competition, which works in the same way. To enter, you pose with the poster below, to be located at a certain 24-hour petrol station in the middle of Cape Town. You then send your pic to editor@capetowngirl.com, and in return you could win a really awesome bunch of prizes that pretty much makes up a day in CTG’s life.

Just loungin' around in a kimono on a giant tin o' sweet rub.

You will win:

A 5-star dinner 7-course for two, drinks included, at The Roundhouse Restaurant

A free image consultation with Lipstick Spin, glamour lifestyle and wardrobe consultants (if you need an outfor for that occasion, these are the ladies to go to, trust me)

A huge hamper of NoMU baking and cooking products - including the Sweet Rub

A 6-month subscription to Cosmopolitan Magazine

2 pairs of designer shades from Sunglass Hut

and of course, a ridiculous pastry box filled with goodies such as macarons from Cassis - the small bakery in Gardens Centre where CTG first discovered macarons.

Could one really ask for more? Looking most forward to seeing your poses. Have fun with this, ya hear. Do you like my pink kimono? Don’t say I didn’t try to make it fun now. The deadline is WEDNESDAY the 31 JUNE.

PS. Before this post even went up, this came in. Good times!

CTG wins first Steri Stumpie Flavour-Off for team Bubblegum

26 May 2010, Posted by Cape Town Girl in CTG, advertising, cape town, hilarious, lifestyle, 0 Comments

It was a sunny day y’all, when CTG arrived to fight on behalf of Bubblegum Steri Stumpie and challenge fellow blogger Chris Rawlinson for the title of Flavour-Off Champion. The stadium was ready:

The tension in the arena was palpable.

Things started off pretty tense y’all. Chris had brought his special yellow hat to ‘bring his banana’. CTG had a rosette and a badge. And some hardcore Wayfarers (thanks Sunglass Hut).

CTG aka Bubblegum squares off with Chris, aka Banana

Chris tried to intimidate CTG with his banana, but it just made him look cute:

Mwah.

CTG put on her serious face so we could get down to some serious Hungry Hippo:

Srs.

We then got down to business. CTG’s hippos were in fine form, very hungry and very into munching their balls. There was much flurry and excitement and drama and tears and then CTG’s hippo ate Chris’s hippos balls and it was all over and CTG aka Bubblegum was crowned the winner! What a moment!

Victory. Totally sweet. And bubblegum-flavoured.

And the prize? CTG’s favourite flavour Steri Stumpie of course! Lots of it!

CTG with her bub

What a spectacular event! This is the first of many Flavour-Offs that Steri Stumpie will be holding – y’all can find out more here. If you want to challenge someone you know to a flavour-off, you should drop them a mail. Dreams can come true!

Vitamin Surprise!

25 May 2010, Posted by Cape Town Girl in CTG, advertising, blogs, cape town, lifestyle, sponsors, 3 Comments

Was just sitting at me desk. Ordering some cupcakes. Doing some online lingerie shopping. Wondering about my future…remembering that it would be filled with more cupcakes. And more lingerie. And then… THE PHONE RINGS.

“Is that Alex?”

“Yes.”

“There’s a surprise for you at reception.”

“Oh my God, tell them I’ve left the country, tell them I’ve gone to an Ashram in India.”

“No, I think it’s a good surprise…”

Surprise!

Next thing you know it I’m draped in this zazzy bag and veritably drowing in Vitamin Water, which has brand new labels that have been especially released for the World Cup, which I quite enjoy. Allow me to relay an extract, from the Super V label:

“so here’s the thing. it appears that football fever is not actually a fever at all. in fact, it’s not even a medical condition. hey, sweaty palms, racing pulses and the desire to sing badly with 90 000 people sounds pretty sick to us, but not even betty, our google-gal from finance, could crack a single medical mention… heck, we even re-watched every episode of ‘dr kildaire’… nada. but try super-v, it’s got loads of vitamins to help you get through as this year hits fever pitch.”

"Well hello dere..."

Pretty cool huh? Love a product that talks to you like you’re a person. Kinda chatty. Gonna finish the conversation I started with super-v, if you don’t mind.

Smiling is the new pouting

Remember when Zoolander came out? And everyone was SO GRATEFUL to have a reason to pout in photos? ‘Blue Steel!’ was the phrase of the day! Crocs had JUST come out too… Anyway, Dentyne are taking aim at that whole vibe and have come right out there with these daring billboards that say it straight. And not only do they make their point, but they also have CTG’s little floaty smiley face in them, rage, raging against the Blue Steel. Look at me rage:

And yet further raging:

dentyne billboard smile cape town girl

I have been worrying lately that I don’t do nearly enough to make the world a better place. I drive when I could walk. I use plastic bottles not glass. I eat meat when I know how mean they are to the cows. But since being a part of this Dentyne campaign to end the Blue Steel carnage, I actually feel a bit better about things. Next time you’re feeling a l’il down about what you’re not doing to save the planet, why not bust out a smile? It really is for the greater good!

PS look out for the Dentyne billboards in and around Cape Town and Jozi. They come out next week. There are 20 of them! Building an anti-pout army! ALSO, Have you seen the TV ad to go with this campaign? Is tres beautiful. Click here to check it out.

And for your enjoyment, a few pics from behind the scenes on this shoot. Note: I am NOT a model. Hence these were learning curves for me. Literally. My curves had to learn. To curve. Do you have ANY idea how hard it is to hold one’s body in such a way that one looks good on camera? It’s freaking difficult! Makeup done by the lovely Sebastine Pepler and photographer was Antonia Steyn.

Antonia strikes a pose

Dressing table

Last pout, getting it all out.

Getting hair did

Building the beehive

Striking a pose! Looking quite frightened!

Jen and Antonia choose the shots they like.

We may have a winner...

Remember ladies, SMILE!

Been practising CPR

Just want to be a ’safer friend’, you know? Here’s a nifty little CPR instruction video I found to get me going. Is quite cool as they are also lounging around in lingerie. Do you think the girl who is receiving CPR choked on a cupcake?

Enjoy! Thanks Chris

The Run Diary: CTG now in a gym near you

07 Apr 2010, Posted by Cape Town Girl in CTG, advertising, bloggers, cape town, the run diaries, 4 Comments

Some of you gym-goers may have seen CTG in all her smooth-armpit glory plastered around the Virgin Active Gyms. Pretty rad hey! Virgin Active called me up after I submitted my running story and asked if I’d like to be a part of the What Moves Me campaign, and have my running story featured. It’s not often you get to work out while looking at yourself! Been receiving some ’sightings’ pics, see here:

This one was sent in by @Spo0ky, who is taking a shot of @Dplanet taking a shot of Amina next to CTG

Here @CaptainJennifer can be seen posing with CTG in Gardens Wembley.

Tweets Henre, all the way from Paarl:

It’s all very overwhelming! Like I said, snap a pic of you and my pits & I’ll feature you here. If you can handle it! Check out the VirginActive What Moves Me campaign, which is what the shots are for. And follow @VirginActiveSA on twitter! And last but not least, here’s my running story (taken from the interview done at the gym while we were shooting, is slightly different to the original running story, and by that I mean please enjoy the ‘whatever’ I manage to slip in there!):
I was diagnosed with really really high cholesterol. It runs in my family and I realised I had to start going to gym in order to give myself the best chance of living beyond the age of fifty (kidding… but also not). I absolutely love running. It’s my favourite. I work nine to whatever every night so I needed something I could do when I had the time and running was the only thing that gave me the freedom to just get on a treadmill and start running. So it works for me. To me the gym is synonymous with stress release. I know for a fact that the only thing that’s going to make me feel better is gym. And the only thing that’s going to get rid of the stress is gym. So no matter how bad I feel I know that once I get here I’ll be fine. The struggle is making time and making other people understand how much of a priority it actually is. I do a minimum run of 3km’s, that’s 20 minutes and then if I’m feeling particularly energetic I’ll run another 3km’s and then I like to do an extra 20 minutes of mixed cardio – so I’ll do cross-training or I’ll do the ice-skating machine, I’ll even do the stationery bike and every now and again I’ll do the hip-hop class twice a week which I love and that kind of takes care of the toning and every now and again if I’m feeling adventurous I’ll do yoga or I’ll do a stretch class but that’s pretty much it for me. Lots of cardio.
Alex, Virgin Active Gardens

Put them on for CTG and win a pair of designer ones!

06 Apr 2010, Posted by Cape Town Girl in advertising, competitions, sponsors, 11 Comments

As you may have gathered, I appreciate a great pair of Sunglasses. I get mine from Sunglass Hut, who have kindly offered to give away 3 pairs of designer sunglasses from the Sunglass Hut Exclusive Range to 3 CTG readers in the Put Them On for CTG Competition! Freakin’ rad or what?

To win, you gotta take a pic of yourself (or with a friend if you’re feeling shy) in your favourite shades and give your best blue steel, like so:

Except with your glasses on, like so:

Mark wears CTG's Bvulgari's from Sunglass Hut

Then send it to me editor@capetowngirl.com before Friday 16 April 2010 with the subject line CTG Put It On.

For your trouble:

For the ladies, we’ll be giving away a pair of Miu Miu’s worth R2090. These shades are available exclusively at Sunglass Hut, and nowhere else. Miu Miu is part of the Prada Group, and is “the other and more transgressive soul of Miuccia Prada”. These are beauties!

Sunglass Hut Exclusives: Miu Miu

Plus I have long been a fan of the miu miu brand generally:

Kirsten Dunst for Miu Miu

Another CTG lady will win a pair of Salvatore Ferragamos worth R2120, also available exclusively at Sunglass Hut. The Ferragamo’s are objects of beauty in themselves! I adore these, will have to get a pair next, I think. You can’t go wrong with a well-crafted tortoiseshell.

Salvatore Ferragamo

Sunglass Hut Exclusives: Salvatore Ferragamo

I actually have this old Ferragamo advert framed and up in my apartment, isn’t it just awesome:

And for the Guy Readers at CTG we have a pair of Persol’s worth R2050, available exclusively at Sunglass Hut. Now Persol is one of my favourite brands. James Bond wears Persol. Steve McQueen wore Persol. Kathryn Bigelow who directed Hurt Locker wears Persol.

Sunglass Hut Exclsuives: Persol

circa 1996

I repeat: Email your pics to editor@capetowngirl.com before next Friday 16 April 2010. Looking forward to seeing your best Blue Steels, and more importantly, giving you sunglasses!

Have fun with this one! CTG

Enchanting.

Always wanted to see a sanitary pad stuck to the bottom of the basin when I use the ladies room at the movies! (Ster Kinekor)

Why do you think they did this? Is one supposed to touch it? I doubt it would be dry since it’s constantly being ‘topped up’. In which case, is there something to be learned about the product by prodding a soggy sanitary pad? Plus that hole in the middle just takes things to, well, a whole new level. Hmm… what I would call ‘tactless tactical’.
