A Royal Disney Wedding

Pity they didn’t follow the plan and put those weird things on the back of their heads!

3 Facebook friends nobody needs

11 May 2011, Posted by Cape Town Girl in facebook, girl stuff, thought for the day, 4 Comments

I recently did a big cull, and apart from the usual party promoters / stalkers / clingy commentors, a few others made the chop.

1. The Friend Who Corrects Your Spelling. Or anyone’s spelling. You’ve seen this before: someone posts an innocent quote, usually by Rumi (bless you Rumi), and they leave out a letter (because BlackBerry keys can get sticky) or they spell receive ‘recieve’. Before anyone has a chance to exhale, this friend has landed on the status like a rabid staffie on a leather boot and is chewing on the error with the kind of pupil-dilated frenzy you see on a great white shark in ATTACK mode.

“Don’t you mean receive????” they spit out, 1 part know-it-all, 1 part smug, and 70 000 parts total f-ing moron. Come now. It’s facebook. Good for you spellcheck master. Hope you feel like you achieved something with your life today.

2. The Friend Who Comments On Your Relationship Status. A friend of yours is going through a breakup. The sad day comes when their relationship status changes to ‘Single’. And BAM – somebody decides to use the comment function. “OH good he was a loser anyway’. Or they ‘Like’ that your ex is now listed as single (one word: inappropriate). Or they go with the ‘innocent’ (yet nosy and extremely insensitive) “Oh boooo what happened???” (3 words: not the place). Or perhaps you change your status to ‘in a relationship’, and there’s that one friend who CANNOT hold themselves back from commenting ‘with your mom’ (HAHAHAHA U ARE SO FUNNY U SHOULD BECOME A COMEDIAN GOSH I’M DYING HERE. Not. My mom is on facebook, and that’s just lame. Plus you’ve made my wall look gross.).

I personally cannot FATHOM that someone would take the time out of their day to actually say ANYTHING about a relationship that is not their own over facebook. It’s just completely inappropriate. Well, actually I can. If you’ve got nothing going for you, you will naturally obsess about what other people have going for them. What I actually can’t fathom is that people would admit to being losers via such actions. Keep it up love! It’s real attractive! Doesn’t make you look bitter / creepy / obsessed / like you have the social skills of an autistic badger at all!

3. The Friend Who Clicks The Link To See Pictures Of Osama Bin Laden Dead. Are you kidding me??? Sure, I accept that ‘your mouse hand slipped on the puddle of freshly sprayed Mr Min on your desk’, making you ‘click the link by mistake‘, causing you to spam my wall with I SAW PICS OF DEAD OSAMA FOR REAL and make us both look like depraved necrophiliacs. I’ll let it slide the first time. But then, I will expect you to start using the same skill your dog uses to prevent itself from falling in the swimming pool: common sense. Don’t click the link if it looks dodgy. Come now. D you really want to see pics of Osama dead?? REALLY???? You’re not who I thought you were…

Thanks for listening. Peacebook.

We MUST have one of these! Look how it goes with our vibe? We do have an issue though. WHICH ONE TO CHOOSE????

Plus they are only R999 if you buy one through dealio, which makes them nearly R800 cheaper than they usually are. *faints*

But seriously now. WHICH ONE TO CHOOSE? Click here to check out the TI brand. I’ve had every styler you can think of and these are right up there with GHD.

PS. The TI styler  is another great gift for the Glamourmomma!

CTG in Natal

Missed you midlands

A week ago I was in the Natal midlands for a mini-getaway and wedding. Have you ever been there? It’s beautiful. We stayed at a place called Beaconvlei, which has cottages set around a lake. You can also paddle on a boat on this lake, if you manage to overcome the paralysis that hits you due to the sheer beauty of the place.
I'm on a boat!

The long autumn shadows inspired cartwheels:

Cartwheels in the country dear

The view (below) is from Blueberry Hill, a gorgeous converted barn that is a food shop. I recommend the breakfast and the coffee.

Having some breakfast at Blueberry Hill

Smiles in the sunshine :)

The wedding was at Michaelhouse School, which is prettier than most Ivy League campuses, and naturally where CTG’s son will go (because boys need boarding school in the country).

Miss you a week ago. Miss you midlands.

Lady Gaga’s Judas

I love Lady Gaga’s new video for Judas because it appeals to that part in every woman that seeks to blame herself for what goes wrong in a relationship, and embraces the juxtaposition of a strong set of ethics and religious values alongside a willingness to martyr the mother divine via loving a man who has betrayed her it’s freaking cool. Love the imagery, love the song. Go Gaga.

Beauty review: the QMS Collagen Facial

05 May 2011, Posted by Cape Town Girl in CTG recommends, Slider, beauty, beauty products, girl stuff, 5 Comments

So a few weeks ago I went for a facial at the QMS HQ. Click here to find out more about QMS Medicosmetics. As someone who is familiar with treatments, there is very little I haven’t seen before, but the QMS treatment was different in that during application of the products they use a device that delivers pure oxygen to your both your face and lungs while you relax and let the products do their work on your skin. The effect this had on me is that it sent me into a deep and relaxing sleep while the product worked its magic on my skin, and by magic I mean it broke down old tissues, stimulated cellular regeneration, hydrated my skin and eliminated fine lines. Sound like something you’re interested in? Read on.

First, I had the QMS Exfoliant applied, which loosens dead skin cells and stimulates your skin to start producing its own collagen (collagen is what makes your skin silky soft, so this is a win situation).

After the exfoliant came the QMS Alginate mask, which covers your mouth and sets to hydrate your skin and saturate it with nutrients but also more importantly, to take an imprint of your skin so you can see where the problem areas are and where your skin is starting to age.

The Alginate mask being applied. Picture from Pretty24-7.

And then lastly, Anel my therapist applied the ‘Relax-o-firm’ mask, which has the same effect as botox except it’s very gentle and subtle, and you can still smile afterwards (and you will, trust me). Plaster of Paris is applied over this cream because the heat helps it work, which 98% oxygen is pumped into your lungs for 15 minutes. I loved this part!

I’ve had some time to use the QMS Basic Collagen range which includes Day Collagen, Night Collagen and the daily Exfoliator, and I am thrilled to be able to say it’s had an amazing effect on my skin. Like, it really has. I’m not just saying that. The QMS Sport Active Daily Moisturiser has become one of my favourite products as it’s light and fluffy and it also has colour in it, so you can skip the daily foundation. And it has a decent SPF of 15. Click here to read more about it.

Obsessed with this product. Skin in amazingly good condition cos of it. Is tinted too.

Win!

If you want to start using QMS products, the main ones you need to get into are the Classic Collagen Set, which contains the exfoliant and the Day and Night Collagens, and compliment that with a moisturises like the Sport Active one. And if you think all of that is a bit pricey, I’d start with the Sport Active. A week’s use will convert you, promise.

To find out where you can get QMS products or experience a treatment like I had, email anel@futurethis.co.za or click here for a list of stockists.

Just finished an incredible shoot with David Sessions - he will be the next Mario Testino! Love this makeup

Big thank you to Danielle van Cuyck for doing makeup and hair.
