There aren’t many comediennes out there but Whitney Cummings has become funny and funnier lately. Loved this skit where she talks about why she hates porn. This ‘crazy bitches’ skit about how kray-kray some girls are also brings the lols. We’ve all seen it a thousand times!
This movie looks sensationally thrilling, like a South African Sixth Sense, but with none of the US cheesiliciousness. Can’t WAIT to watch it. More here.
That’s me and MEJ at the Loerie Awards Marie Claire Winner’s after party at Reserve. What is the Loerie Awards, you ask? It’s when a whole bunch of people who spend all year surfing youtube and tweeting about their hangovers get together to drink a lot and clap hands for work made by other youtube-surfers and then tweet about their hangovers. Don’t let that detract from the prestigious nature of this event – it is ‘Africa’s premiere advertising awards show’ after all. And it was good fun. First night was hosted by Riaan Cruywagen, the newsguy who’s been around forever.
And last night was hosted by The Hoff. As in David Hasselfhoff himself. Yes.. he arrived on stage in a sparkly jacket singing along to the Baywatch theme (don’t you worry… it’s gonna be alright..) and proceeded to crack a lot of Hoff jokes. He also referred to himself as ‘the ultimate integrated campaign’… fair enough. He also made a lot of jokes about sleeping with a lot of women, which always makes a man look like he wants to you think he’s slept with a lot of women, which makes him a) a bit ew (promiscuity is so 70s) and b) appear a little insecure. No matter! He made up for it by bursting into a rousing rendition of Hooked On A Feeling while he walked down the CTICC auditorium, carrying a baywatch lifebuoy, with seven strippers in catsuits gyrating around him.
All in all, it was good fun. Oh, and some people won some awards. Read more here.

Meet my Cali BFF Lana del Ray. She used to be ‘all indie and shizz’ and call herself ‘Lizzy Grant’ and she ‘walked on the emo side’, then she realised there was more fun to be had if she made herself ‘a little more accessible’ (by putting on a nice dress and doing her hair and smiling and looking like she didn’t take life too seriously, even if her music does).
LDL also got collagen in her lips, which may be because then we’d all laugh at her for getting collagen in her lips and see her ‘human and deeply imperfect’ side, or maybe she thought we’d like them. Am not phased either way cos I really like her music, especially her music video for Video Games. She reminds me of when I used to live in a David Lynch movie and used to hang out in the muggy summer air in California and drink martinis and sneak into hotels and get chased by paparazzi. Those were the days. Watch:
Carlo Collodi penned one of the most famous stories of all time – Pinocchio. Montblanc release a Writer’s Edition every year and other edition have included Voltaire, Dickens and Proust, and Collodi is this year’s featured storyteller… Nice to have around in a pocket when one gets mobbed for autographs at YDE, what do you think? Interesting fact about Collodi – he died before Pinoccho became the chart-topping kid’s story it would eventually become. Him and Stieg Larsson are high-fiving somewhere.
I like the fact that the pens are hand-crafted and that the tools used to create them are destroyed at the end of the manufacturing process, so there really is no chance of anyone else getting hold of one once they’re all sold.
