He got the headline in this twenty year old ad for Maybelline. ‘Kissing Potion’ flavour lip gloss? They just don’t make them like they used to. Same with men. I don’t know anyone called Richie, Fred or Bob. FML. Don’t have a blow-wave fringe either. I’d be nowhere in the eighties!

Nando’s sent me lotsa tomatoes! They look so delicious and ripe I had to share. It’s in honour of the new Nando’s flavour, Tangy Tomato - for people who don’t like the hot stuff. Tangy Tomato chicken is sun-ripened tomato with a blend of aromatic basil and a hint of zesty balsamic vinegar. Sounds delish!

1. QMS Lift o Firm for body. As a huge stark raving fanatic of the QMS range, this variant has lived up to the company’s promise of incredibly well conditioned skin. I also LOVE its orange blossom scent – fresh and clean, unlike most firming creams which are quite sticky and can sometimes have a chemical smell. I’ll pretty much use anything QMS produces – I’m a total fangirl.

2. Optiphi Cleanser and Revitalising Protector. A new product, and also a locally made one (I see they won a big prize recently – a Proudly South African Homegrown Award - well done, they definitely deserve it) I’d never heard of them. But the cleanser is wonderfully mild and this product, while having a sunblock, is also light and easily absorbed – for that I love it. It’s also non-greasy, unlike many products with sunblock in, but super moisturising – been a lifesaver this winter! Two beautifully manicured thumbs up.
Check out the OptiPhi facebook page.

3. Elizabeth Arden Sunstick. Perfect for keeping in your bag and slapping on your face when you’re in the sun unexpectedly. And it’s base is 8-hour cream, so it’s perfect for lips or even small scars which tend to get darker in the sun. Great size, great product. Get it at Suttafords or Edgars or pretty much anywhere there’s an Arden counter.

4. Elizabeth Arden’s Spring ‘In Bloom’ colours. Light and pretty and bright and lovely! And such gorgeous packaging. I do so love a dash of teal eyeshadow in the springtime, especially when you’ve done your first layer of self-tan. More about self-tan products coming soon!
Haven’t been to Beluga in ages but had such a great night there the other night. Glad to see their half-price sushi special still going strong!
Loads more in their stores! www.accessorize.co.za
Currently obsessed with artisan breads, and since I’m a bit sick of the usual suspects I’ve stumbled on this absolute jewel of an unknown. Above is a semi-rye country sourdough loaf from a bakery called Dirk Bakes Bread. Artisan to the tee – he makes to order mostly, and all of it’s wood-fired. Plus he’s quite difficult to get hold of, so it really feels like an achievement when you get to place and receive your order (so Cape Town). I don’t know how he gets that incredibly soft inside but it’s got me risking my carb allowance for it. Right before summer too! I ordered some of his ciabattas for a dinner party a while back and they were amazing!

Check out his site for details on how to order.

Love this tribute to Steve Jobs from Charly’s Bakery, capetonian baking legends. This is a very sad day here at CTG. We are all huge Apple crazies. We’re gonna miss u Mr Jobs.
Speaking of Charly’s Bakery – have you seen, they’ve made a reality show out of life in the bakery called Charly’s Cake Angels! Looks hysterical!

Follow their facebook page for more info, or read this article on 2oceansvibe here.

Been obsessing over Elizabeth Taylor and her jewel collection since I tweeted a link last week to her collection being displayed at Christie’s, to go on sale later this year. It’s the most outrageous collection. Some of it truly ostentatious. But no less captivating.

just a few little emeralds to brighten a dull outfit hmm

Maybe a few pearls and rubies, for a little variety. Bulgari? Cartier?

And that yellow gold setting? It’s almost rude! Drawing attention to itself. Of course, you can draw attention to yourself when you’re a seven billion carat ruby set among 4 billion carat diamonds. I guess. You’ll probably get away with it. Anyway, thrilled to see that another Elizabeth - namely Elizabeth Arden – is going through a jewel phase too with the launch of the limited edition new Jewel Range 8-hour products. Now these would make great gifts, of Cartier is a little out of your budget. Available at all the beauty favourites.

PS while we’re talking Elizabeths: just finished reading The Virgin’s Lover (Philippa Gregory) about Elizabeth I, the Virgin Queen. A fictional, mostly-true account of how Queen Elizabeth, widely referred to as ‘the Virgin Queen’ (virgin used loosely here, in meaning similar to say, a hypothetical Virgin Caprice Regular) totally messed over her lover Robert Dudley, and did so in a way that made him think he was messing her over, and about to become King. Wonderfully medievally scandalous and frought with angst of the royal, romantic kind. Nice easy weekend read.

Some snaps from one of my fav SA designers and one of my fav SA leather crafters at New York Fashion Week. I heard it was really well received!

love the dreamy creamy featheriness of it all. and if i’m not mistaken that’s a stingray clutch in the bottom pic. Well done to both brands for representing SA in NY. Says Malcolm Kluk:
“Our presence here at New York fashion week will give the world an understanding of the sharp and feminine aesthetics combined with fine workmanship and unusual embellishments that form Kluk CGDT. This collection was made to convey the softer and more romantic side of Africa and the collaboration with Cape Cobra Leathercraft enabled us to offer the ultimate solution”
